Of Counsel, Litigation and Research (Part-Time, Remote)

We’re looking for an experienced litigator to join us as part-time Of Counsel. The role centers on legal research and writing. You’ll work directly with the firm’s partners on substantive motions, briefs, and research memoranda across our litigation, arbitration, and advisory matters.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Research complex questions of California and federal law and turn the results into clear, well-supported written work
Draft and edit pleadings, motions, oppositions, and briefs, including writ petitions and appellate briefs
Prepare research memoranda that give partners and clients direct, practical answers
Support case strategy, discovery, and hearing preparation as matters require
Contribute to advisory work in employment, governance, and public agency matters when research needs are heavy
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Active California State Bar membership in good standing
5+ years of litigation experience, ideally at a firm or agency with demanding writing standards
Exceptional research and writing skills, with the precision to cite primary authority correctly and the judgment to know what matters
Comfort working independently in a remote setting, managing deadlines, and communicating proactively
A plus: experience in government or public agency law (Brown Act, Public Records Act, administrative writs) or employment law (FEHA, Labor Code, wage and hour)
A plus: experience with California education law or charter schools
TERMS
Independent contractor (Of Counsel), about 20 hours per week
$160 per billable hour (target of approx. $166,400 per year at 20 billable hours per week)
Fully remote, with flexible scheduling around core availability and court deadlines
