PUBLIC RELATIONS (PR) – LEADERSHIP ROLE

About the Role
Lovely Professional University (LPU) is seeking an experienced and strategic Public Relations (PR) Leader to drive the University's media relations, corporate communications, brand reputation, and external communication initiatives.
The incumbent will be responsible for strengthening LPU's media presence, institutional reputation, leadership visibility, and strategic communication, while building strong relationships with key media stakeholders across print, television, digital, business, and education media.
Key Responsibilities
1. PR & Communication Strategy
Develop and execute a comprehensive PR and communications strategy aligned with LPU's institutional objectives.
Lead integrated PR campaigns to enhance institutional visibility and brand reputation.
Develop annual PR plans, media calendars, campaigns, and communication initiatives.
Identify opportunities to showcase LPU's academic excellence, research, innovation, achievements, rankings, placements, student success, and institutional initiatives.
2. Media Relations
Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, reporters, media houses, and key opinion leaders.
Drive proactive media engagement across print, television, digital, business, and education media.
Facilitate interviews, press conferences, media briefings, roundtables, and leadership interactions.
Generate high-quality earned media opportunities through effective media pitching and relationship management.
Manage incoming media queries and ensure timely and accurate responses.
3. Brand & Reputation Management
Strengthen LPU's institutional reputation and public positioning through strategic PR initiatives.
Develop compelling narratives and communication themes that reinforce LPU's brand positioning.
Identify emerging communication opportunities, trends, and reputation risks.
Ensure consistency and alignment of external communication across relevant platforms.
4. Leadership Profiling & Thought Leadership
Develop and execute media profiling strategies for senior leadership.
Identify opportunities for leadership interviews, expert commentary, opinion articles, panel discussions, conferences, and thought-leadership platforms.
Position institutional leaders and subject-matter experts as credible voices on relevant education and industry issues.
5. Content & Media Communication
Oversee the development of press releases, media briefs, feature stories, articles, statements, talking points, FAQs, and backgrounders.
Ensure communication is accurate, impactful, consistent, and aligned with institutional objectives.
Work with internal teams to identify newsworthy stories and convert them into compelling media narratives.
6. Crisis & Reputation Communication
Develop and maintain a structured crisis and issues-management communication framework.
Monitor emerging issues and media narratives that may impact the University's reputation.
Coordinate timely and appropriate communication during sensitive situations.
Prepare media responses, holding statements, FAQs, and leadership talking points when required.
Provide strategic communication counsel to senior management during reputation-sensitive situations.
7. Media Monitoring & PR Analytics
Monitor media coverage, institutional mentions, sentiment, trends, and share of voice.
Analyse PR performance and identify opportunities for improving media visibility.
Prepare periodic PR performance reports and insights for senior management.
Establish measurable KPIs for PR campaigns and media initiatives.
8. Team & Agency Management
Lead, mentor, and develop the PR and communications team.
Manage external PR agencies, media consultants, vendors, and communication partners.
Set clear objectives, deliverables, and performance expectations.
Ensure effective coordination between PR, Marketing, Digital, Social Media, Creative, Admissions, and other relevant functions.

Candidate Profile
12–20 years of progressive experience in Public Relations, Media Relations, Corporate Communications, Brand Communications, or a related field.
Proven experience in a senior PR/communications leadership role.
Strong and established relationships with media across print, television, digital, business, and education sectors.
Strong understanding of the media and communications ecosystem.
Demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategic PR campaigns.
Strong expertise in media pitching, storytelling, leadership profiling, reputation management, and stakeholder communication.
Experience handling sensitive communication and reputation-related matters.
Proven ability to lead teams and manage external PR agencies.
Excellent written, verbal, presentation, networking, and negotiation skills.
Strategic mindset with strong execution and stakeholder-management capabilities.
Experience in higher education, large institutions, corporate communications, media, or consumer-facing organizations will be an advantage.
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's or master's degree in mass communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a related discipline.
Relevant professional certifications in PR, communications, or media relations will be an added advantage.
