Position Summary
Poppin is an office furniture company seeking a combined Chief Financial Officer / Chief Operating Officer to serve as the senior financial and operating executive of the business.
Reporting to the CEO, the CFO/COO will lead finance, accounting, operations, and technology, with responsibility for both the financial performance of the company and the day-to-day execution of the business. This includes cash and working capital, inventory, supply chain and fulfillment, customer experience, financial reporting, and the systems that support these functions.
This is a hands-on, entrepreneurial executive role. The successful candidate will have led finance and operations in a physical-product business and be equally comfortable setting strategy, managing leaders, and working directly with financial models, operating data, systems, and vendors. Poppin operates with a lean, highly accountable team, so this executive must be resourceful, willing to work without large-company infrastructure, and comfortable stepping into the details when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Finance & Accounting
Own the annual budget, financial model, rolling forecast, and operating cadence
Manage cash, working capital, and capital planning, with particular focus on inventory
Deliver a timely, accurate monthly close and GAAP-compliant financial statements
Prepare reporting for the CEO, board, lenders, and other stakeholders
Maintain accurate inventory accounting, landed cost, and cost of goods sold
Develop unit economics by channel, product line, and customer segment
Oversee AR, AP, collections, sales tax compliance, internal controls, banking, audit, and tax relationships
Operations
Lead end-to-end supply chain and customer delivery, including sourcing, vendor management, production planning, freight, warehousing, fulfillment, and customer support
Own inventory planning and balance service levels against working capital requirements
Lead vendor negotiations and cost-reduction initiatives, including overseas manufacturing relationships
Own the post-sale customer experience, including order communication, delivery coordination, warranty, returns, and issue resolution
Establish service standards and use customer feedback and support data to identify and resolve recurring product, operational, and systems issues
Establish and manage operating KPIs, including on-time delivery, fill rate, damage and return rates, customer service levels, and cost per order
Technology
Own the company's core systems, including ERP, e-commerce, warehouse management, CRM, customer support, and business intelligence
Prioritize systems investments based on business impact and manage implementation partners, vendors, and contractors
Ensure data integrity across systems and maintain appropriate security, access, and business continuity standards
Qualifications
Required
10+ years of progressive leadership experience across finance and operations
Direct experience in a physical-product business where inventory, COGS, freight, and supply chain are material
Demonstrated ownership of the P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, forecasting, and financial close
Track record of building or materially improving operating processes
Strong systems fluency, including experience leading or managing through an ERP implementation or migration
Ability and willingness to operate at both the executive and detailed operating levels
Preferred
Public company experience, ideally in a senior finance or operating leadership role
Experience in furniture, home goods, consumer durables, or B2B distribution
Experience across both direct-to-consumer and B2B or contract sales channels
Experience leading remote and distributed teams
Experience preparing a company for a transaction, lender diligence, or audit
