Senior Consultant - Accounting, Direct and Indirect Tax

Role Description The Senior Consultant – Accounting, Direct and Indirect Tax is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai. The role involves managing and reviewing accounting records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with direct and indirect tax regulations. The consultant will handle tax computations, returns, assessments, and advisory for income tax and various indirect taxes, including GST and VAT. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting risk-based internal audits, performing detailed process and compliance reviews, supporting business setup and outsourcing engagements, and preparing documentation for certifications and refunds. The Senior Consultant will also liaise with clients and authorities, provide technical guidance to junior team members, and contribute to continuous process improvements and business analytics initiatives.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and book-keeping practices, with the ability to manage and review accounts independently.
Expertise in direct taxation, including income tax computations, return filing, assessments, and advisory for domestic and international taxation.
Hands-on experience in indirect taxes such as GST, VAT, Service Tax, Excise, Customs, and related export benefits, including compliance, filings, and dispute support.
Familiarity with corporate and regulatory frameworks including Companies Act 2013, labor laws, Factories Act, and VAT laws in international jurisdictions such as UAE.
Proficiency in using accounting and tax software, spreadsheets, and business analytics tools to analyze data and prepare reports.
Strong research, analytical, and documentation skills, with attention to detail in drafting opinions, working papers, and client deliverables.
Effective communication and client management skills, including the ability to explain complex tax and compliance matters in clear business language.
Ability to work on-site in Chennai, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior professionals.
