About the Team
The Developer Productivity (DevX) team builds and maintains the tools, platforms, and infrastructure that help Helpshift engineers reliably build, test, deploy, and release products.
We work across CI/CD, build and release automation, developer tooling, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, observability, security, and engineering workflows. Our goal is to reduce engineering friction, improve developer productivity, and make software delivery faster, safer, and more reliable.
We are looking for an engineer who can independently own complex DevX problems, build scalable engineering solutions, and partner with teams across Helpshift to improve developer productivity.
What You'll Work On
CI/CD & Release Engineering
Design, implement, and maintain reliable CI/CD pipelines for build, test, deployment, and release workflows.
Improve pipeline performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
Identify bottlenecks in build and release workflows and drive improvements.
Develop release automation and deployment workflows.
Troubleshoot complex pipeline and release failures.
Tools / Technologies:
Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Git, Argo CD, Argo Rollouts, Helm, or equivalent.
Developer Productivity & Automation
Design and build tools that improve developer productivity and reduce engineering friction.
Identify recurring engineering problems and automate them through scalable solutions.
Build internal developer tooling, CLI utilities, and workflow automation.
Understand developer workflows and identify opportunities to improve the overall SDLC.
Languages / Technologies:
Python, Shell/Bash, Go, Java, Clojure, or equivalent.
Cloud & Infrastructure
Design and maintain cloud infrastructure supporting CI/CD, development, testing, and engineering platforms.
Build infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code.
Design solutions with appropriate considerations for scalability, reliability, security, and cost.
Improve infrastructure automation and operational efficiency.
Tools / Technologies:
AWS, GCP, Azure, AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, Ansible, or equivalent.
Containers & Platform Engineering
Design and operate containerised platforms used by engineering teams.
Work with Kubernetes-based infrastructure and deployment platforms.
Improve reliability, scalability, security, and efficiency of container platforms.
Troubleshoot complex Kubernetes and container issues.
Tools / Technologies:
Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, Helm, Kustomize, ECR, Argo CD, or equivalent.
Observability & Reliability
Design and improve observability for DevX platforms and engineering infrastructure.
Develop meaningful metrics, dashboards, alerts, logs, and traces.
Identify reliability and performance bottlenecks using observability data.
Drive improvements to system availability and operational efficiency.
Tools / Technologies:
Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Datadog, Loki, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Fluent Bit, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent.
Security in Engineering Workflows
Integrate security into CI/CD and developer workflows.
Design secure pipeline and infrastructure patterns.
Improve container, dependency, code, and infrastructure security.
Work with security teams to address risks and compliance requirements.
Tools / Technologies:
Trivy, Prisma Cloud, Snyk, Checkov, cfn-guard, cdk-nag, OPA/Conftest, IAM and secrets-management solutions, or equivalent.
Build, Test & Developer Environments
Improve build and test infrastructure used by engineering teams.
Identify bottlenecks in build and test workflows and improve their performance.
Design and maintain scalable development and test environments.
Improve sandbox and environment provisioning through automation.
Partner with engineering teams to understand and solve developer workflow challenges.
Troubleshooting & System Reliability
Diagnose complex issues across CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, and distributed systems.
Perform root-cause analysis and drive issues through resolution.
Identify systemic problems rather than only addressing individual incidents.
Contribute to incident response, reliability improvements, and operational practices.
What We're Looking For
4–7 years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, infrastructure, platform engineering, SRE, or a related field.
Strong Linux/Unix fundamentals.
Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD and automation.
Experience designing and operating production-grade engineering systems.
Strong understanding of Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management.
Strong programming or scripting experience in at least one language.
Ability to analyse complex technical problems and identify root causes.
Understanding of observability, reliability, security, scalability, and cost considerations.
Ability to independently own projects from problem definition through implementation, rollout, and operational support.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Ability to work with multiple engineering teams and influence technical solutions.
Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Good to Have
Experience building internal developer platforms or productivity tooling.
Experience with Jenkins and large-scale CI/CD systems.
Experience with AWS/EKS and cloud-native architectures.
Experience with GitOps using Argo CD or equivalent.
Experience with Helm and Kubernetes ecosystem tooling.
Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace, Datadog, or equivalent.
Experience implementing security controls in CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with OPA, Checkov, cdk-nag, Trivy, or equivalent security tooling.
Experience with build systems, build caching, or distributed build infrastructure.
Experience improving engineering productivity through measurable outcomes.
Familiarity with VSCode, IntelliJ, or similar developer environments.
Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical guidance.
