Role Description
We are looking for an intern to explore emerging human-machine interaction methods and their application in product design. This is a research-focused, non-coding role involving the study of how humans interact with machines through different sensory and multimodal techniques, including touch, voice, gesture, vision, smell and other forms of sensing. The work will focus primarily on applications in healthcare, automation, robotics and intelligent systems, with an emphasis on translating multidisciplinary research into new product and interaction concepts.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct qualitative and exploratory research in Human-Machine Interaction (HMI) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
Study emerging sensing and interaction techniques involving touch, voice, gesture, vision, smell and multimodal interfaces.
Review research papers, patents, products and experimental systems to identify research gaps and product opportunities.
Conduct user interviews, observations, contextual studies and other qualitative research activities.
Explore Generative UX, conversational interfaces, adaptive interfaces and AI-assisted interaction models.
Translate research insights into user journeys, interaction concepts, product ideas, storyboards and experience flows.
Use modern research and design tools such as FigJam, Figma, Google Stitch and other Generative AI design tools for brainstorming, synthesis, concept exploration and rapid visualization.
Experiment with GenAI tools for research synthesis, design exploration, interface generation and communicating alternative interaction concepts.
Document findings through literature reviews, research notes, concept reports and design recommendations.
Identify novel research directions with potential to develop into new products, research publications or intellectual property.
Ideal Candidate
Strong interest in research, product design and emerging technologies.
Good qualitative research, observation and analytical skills.
Curiosity across multidisciplinary areas such as HCI, sensing technologies, psychology, healthcare, automation, robotics and AI.
Familiarity with tools such as FigJam, Figma, Google Stitch and Generative AI tools for research and design exploration.
Ability to communicate research insights through writing, diagrams, presentations, user journeys and design concepts.
Comfortable exploring unfamiliar technologies and translating research into potential product and interaction ideas.
Freshers and students in the final year of undergraduate or postgraduate study are strongly encouraged to apply.
Degree or academic discipline is not a restriction. Candidates from design, engineering, science, psychology, healthcare, humanities, management or other backgrounds are welcome if they demonstrate a genuine interest in Human-Machine Interaction, qualitative research, emerging technologies and product innovation.
Programming experience is not required.
