Sr. Backend Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

GoodData.AI is an AI-native analytics platform helping companies turn their data into governed, agentic, and embeddable decision-making experiences. Built around a headless semantic layer and an analytics-as-code approach, our platform lets development teams build, automate, and govern analytics the same way they build any other software, with CI/CD, version control, and automated testing baked in.
We're looking for a Sr. Backend Engineer (Java/Kotlin) to join the Stellar team and help us keep that platform fast, stable, and secure underneath everything we build. You can work remote, hybrid, or fully onsite from our Brno or Prague offices.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Stellar team is responsible for developer velocity and platform stability. We're FE, BE, and QA engineers, working closely with the rest of the engineering teams to keep delivery pipelines fast and the platform architecture evolving cleanly. We collaborate to design solutions incrementally, and value learning, ownership, teamwork, and transparency.
OUR TECH STACK
Our tech stack is built for reliability, scalability, and speed of delivery across a distributed, containerized platform.
Our backend is developed in Kotlin with the Spring-Boot/Ktor frameworks and Python, backed by PostgreSQL and NoSQL as persistent storage. We lean on Pulsar for asynchronous communication, gRPC/REST for synchronous communication, and OpenAPI for our public API contracts.
We deploy on Kubernetes, provisioned with Terraform and Helm, and we own our GitHub Actions-based CI/CD pipelines end to end, from build to release.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Develop Kotlin-based Spring/Ktor services for a containerized platform.
- Take on the challenges of building a distributed, highly scalable application.
- Craft high-quality code with automated testing.
- Influence technical solutions, processes, and best practices within the team.
- Contribute to both internal and public API design and implementation.
- Design and maintain GitHub Actions workflows for CI/CD.
- Contribute to internal AI-assisted developer tooling, such as on-duty/triage automation and AI coding agents, as part of the team's developer-velocity focus.
- Take part in security-conscious engineering work: vulnerability remediation and hardening of auth flows.
- Hold operational duty during business hours.
WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM YOU?
You're comfortable owning a service end to end and enjoy working in a collaborative, incremental way. You're proactive, open-minded, and not afraid to jump into new technologies or domains.
YOU SHOULD HAVE
- experience with Kotlin/Java, Spring, and Java frameworks and technologies,
- familiarity with software design patterns and enterprise application design patterns,
- working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases,
- a passion for clean code, design, and agile/iterative development,
- good proficiency in written and spoken English,
- experience with AI-assisted development tools and practices as a standard part of your daily engineering workflow.
IT IS NICE IF YOU HAVE
- experience with Kotlin Coroutines and/or other advanced Kotlin concepts,
- experience with Gradle,
- experience with GitHub Actions,
- advanced experience with Python,
- hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, infrastructure-as-code tooling like Terraform, and a deeper understanding of Kubernetes concepts and tools (kubectl, Helm, ingress),
- familiarity with observability tooling (Prometheus, distributed tracing),
- familiarity with agentic AI frameworks (e.g. Koog or LangGraph),
- an MS or similar degree in Computer Science/Engineering.
