The Role Mandate
As Principal Architect-Yocto, you will own the architecture and modernization of the Yocto/OpenEmbedded-based webOS build framework for TV and embedded platforms. You will define a scalable, BSP-independent architecture for multi-SoC adoption, establish reproducible build and CI/CD practices, and lead system image and build-time optimization. The role sets technical direction across platform, BSP, DevOps and product teams, drives Yocto LTS lifecycle and upstream alignment, and provides hands-on leadership in integration, bring-up, graphics, media and low-level build debugging.

Key Responsibilities
Build Architecture and Platform Ownership
Own the Yocto/OpenEmbedded-based platform build architecture for webOS TV and embedded products.
Design BSP-independent layer architecture and portability patterns for scalable multi-SoC support and faster platform onboarding.
Define and govern BitBake recipes, metadata layers, dependency workflows, build configurations and reusable platform components.
Lead architecture reviews, design approvals and the long-term build-framework modernization roadmap with platform, BSP, DevOps and product teams.
Solve complex system integration, bring-up, and build issues.
Support technical discussions, solutioning and architecture reviews with customer and global engineering stakeholders when required.
Optimization, Integration and Automation
Drive system image and rootfs optimization, build-time reduction, bottleneck analysis, sstate-cache strategy and build parallelism improvements.
Architect automated and reproducible CI/CD pipelines, upstream synchronization workflows for Yocto LTS adoption.
Lead BSP bring-up, system integration and root-cause analysis across build, graphics, media, rendering, playback and hardware-acceleration issues.
Apply Embedded Linux internals, C/C++, Python and shell-based debugging and automation to resolve complex platform and build-system issues.
How the Role Works
The Principal Architect works across Yocto and OpenEmbedded metadata, BitBake build systems, webOS platform integration, BSPs, CI/CD, QEMU validation, graphics and media subsystems. The role combines hands-on architecture and debugging depth with technical governance, team guidance and cross-functional roadmap execution.
Mandatory Skills and Experience͏
12-15 years of software engineering experience across browser-engine and embedded technologies, with significant ownership of system architecture, technical design and optimization of complex software platforms.
5+ years of hands-on experience with Chromium WebEngine internals and strong understanding of browser architecture, renderer processes, IPC mechanisms and rendering pipelines.
Deep understanding of Chromium Browser, Renderer, GPU/Viz, Network Service and Utility processes, including hands-on knowledge of Mojo IPC and cross-process communication.
Ability to move from architecture definition to proof-of-concept development, code-level investigation, technical validation and root-cause analysis.
Demonstrated system-level memory and performance optimization in large-scale codebases, including rendering, compositing, media and graphics subsystems.
Experience technically leading architects and engineers while remaining hands-on in critical design, debugging and optimization activities.
Preferred / Good to Have͏
Experience with Yocto Project or Linux open-source contributions, upstream patch workflows and community collaboration.
Experience with large-scale platform migrations, Jenkins or Git-based pipelines, and build tools such as CMake or Bazel.
Educational Qualification͏
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
