The Role Mandate
The Research Engineer - Chromium WebEngine/C++ is a hands-on contributor responsible for developing, optimizing, and stabilizing the Chromium-based Web Engine for TV and embedded platforms. Working under the guidance of the Research Architect, the role implements feature enhancements, supports runtime memory reduction and performance optimization, and contributes to the long-term maintainability of Chromium on resource-constrained hardware.
Why This Role - What You Gain͏
Hands-on Chromium engineering
Apply strong C++ and system-software expertise to implement and optimize Chromium-based Web Engine capabilities.
Measurable performance contribution
Support runtime memory reduction, performance efficiency and platform stability.
Complex problem solving
Debug, profile and resolve performance and stability issues at root-cause level.
Prototype-to-product engineering
Contribute to technical proof-of-concepts and translate validated approaches into practical Web Engine improvements under architectural guidance.
The Larger Impact
Improve the performance and stability of Chromium-based Web Engine solutions for TV and embedded devices.
Contribute to browser, renderer and utility-process changes focused on memory efficiency.
Resolve defects and performance issues on resource-constrained hardware.
Support feature enhancement and long-term maintainability of the Chromium fork.
Key Responsibilities
Development and Feature Engineering
Implement and enhance Chromium Web Engine features and optimizations based on architectural guidance.
Implement changes across Chromium browser, renderer, and utility processes to support feature, memory, performance, and platform optimization requirements.
Work on proof-of-concept implementations led by Technical Architects.
Support the long-term maintainability of the Chromium fork.
Performance, Debugging and Stability
Support runtime memory reduction and performance improvements.
Perform debugging, profiling and root-cause analysis of performance and stability issues.
Fix identified issues across resource-constrained TV and embedded platforms.
Validate fixes and optimizations to prevent functional, performance, and stability regressions.
Mandatory Skills and Experience͏
4-10 years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on C++ development in system software, browser engines, embedded platforms or large-scale software codebases.
Strong proficiency in C++ and experience working in large, complex system-software codebases.
Experience with Linux-based embedded systems and resource-constrained platforms such as TV, STB or automotive systems.
Experience with debugging, tracing and profiling tools, with the ability to perform root-cause analysis across complex software flows.
Familiarity with memory and performance profiling, optimization, concurrency and multithreaded systems.
Preferred / Good to Have͏
Exposure to Chromium build systems, version upgrades, fork maintenance or upstream alignment.
Experience with embedded Linux build systems such as Yocto.
Educational Qualification
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
