FDNY Criminal Court/OATH Representative

The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Associate Fire Protection Inspector Level 2 in the Bureau of Legal Affairs/Legal Enforcement Unit. Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Criminal Court Hearings, the successful candidate will: Serve as a Criminal court Representative and a Fire Department OATH representative, representing the Department in Criminal Court and in OATH hearings throughout the five boroughs of New York City. The candidate shall be assigned to pre-conference criminal court cases; serve as liaison and consultant for the Corporation Counsel Attorneys in the criminal court. Travel to criminal court throughout the five boroughs of New York City, review criminal court summonses and conference the criminal court cases with the defendant's representative. The candidate shall articulate arguments in a clear and persuasive manner and respond to inquiries or arguments of hearing officers, respondents and respondent's representatives related to OATH cases.Respond to inquiries or arguments of defendants and/or defendant’s attorney; conduct research related to Criminal Court cases and OATH cases, including Accela, AIMS and BIS research and track, review and track Criminal Court decisions and OATH decisions. Assist the Director/Deputy Director of Enforcement and the Supervisor of Criminal Court Hearings with various special projects as needed and requested; and will liaison with other Bureaus in the Department in connection with Unit operations and perform such other work as may be assigned relating to FDNY Enforcement and Bureau of Legal Affairs matter.
ASSOCIATE FIRE PROTECTION INSP - 31662
1. Five (5) years of full-time experience in or more of the following:
a. the manufacture or storage of explosives or flammables;
b. the development of safety standards for the manufacture or storage of such materials;
c. the inspection of premises where such materials are manufactured, stored or houses to detect potential fire and explosion hazards;
d. the design, installation, operation, repair and testing of sprinkler systems, standpipes, or other fire detection or fire extinguishing systems; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. Education from an accredited college or technical institution with specialization in fire science technology, chemistry, physics or engineering may be substituted for the experience requirement on the basis of one year of education (30 credits) for one year of experience, up to a maximum of 4 years.
License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York.
