Role Overview
Pharmsight is hiring a senior engineer to own the frontend architecture of data-intensive products. You will turn complex analytical workflows into interfaces that are understandable, responsive, and dependable. This is a hands-on role: you will make architectural decisions, deliver features across the stack, and remain accountable for their behavior in production.
Primary focus: React and TypeScript
Working stack: React, Node.js, Python, SQL, NoSQL, Snowflake
Key Responsibilities
Define the structure of React applications: component boundaries, state ownership, data fetching, routing, error handling, and reusable UI patterns.
Build workflows for exploring and acting on complex data, including large tables, filters, drilldowns, dashboards, and long-running operations.
Set measurable standards for front-end performance, accessibility, testability, and reliability. Investigate slow rendering, excessive network requests, and difficult user flows.
Design API contracts with backend engineers and implement supporting endpoints or services in Node.js and Python when a feature requires them.
Ensure the UI represents data accurately, including loading states, partial results, permissions, provenance, and failures.
Lead technical design reviews, review substantial changes, mentor engineers, and simplify parts of the codebase that slow delivery.
Own releases and production issues for the features you build; use telemetry and user feedback to improve them.
Requirements
Deep production experience with React and TypeScript, including the ability to explain and defend architectural choices in a growing application.
Strong command of browser behavior, rendering performance, asynchronous UI, accessibility, and frontend security.
Practical expertise in diagnosing and resolving bottlenecks using React Profiler, memorization strategies, and virtualization techniques to render massive data tables and deep drill-down lists smoothly.
Hands-on experience integrating client-side observability platforms.
Deep experience with modern server-state management libraries to efficiently handle caching, optimistic updates, pagination, and real-time streaming data over WebSocket's or Server-Sent Events (SSE).
Experience building and evolving APIs or services with Node.js, plus practical ability to contribute to Python.
Ability to work across SQL and NoSQL data models and understand how data shape affects API and UI design.
Familiarity with Snowflake as an analytical data platform and the practical implications of presenting warehouse-backed results in an application.
Experience with automated tests, CI/CD, observability, incident investigation, and production ownership.
Clear technical communication and evidence of raising engineering quality through reviews and mentoring.
AI expectations
You should be comfortable using AI coding tools while independently validating their output. Familiarity with LLM-powered product features is valuable, particularly where the interface must communicate uncertainty, source context, human review, or asynchronous processing.
