Who Are We Hiring?
The Lead Child Guardian is a seasonal leadership position within MSG Entertainment's Christmas Spectacular production at Radio City Music Hall. This role carries primary responsibility for leading, coordinating, and overseeing the full Child Guardian team to ensure the direct supervision, safety, and well-being of all child performers during rehearsals, performances, and production-related activities. The Lead Child Guardian serves as the point of contact for all child performer welfare matters, acting as the primary liaison between the Child Guardian team, Stage Management, Production leadership, parents/guardians, and the New York State Department of Labor on child performer compliance. This individual owns the operational integrity of the guardian program including scheduling, coaching, documentation auditing, and incident escalation while ensuring full compliance with New York State and City child performer labor regulations and MSG Entertainment's internal child safety policies.
What Will You Do?
Lead, schedule, and coordinate the daily assignments and coverage of the Child Guardian team across all rehearsals, performances, and production-related activities, ensuring adequate supervision at all times.
Serve as the primary liaison to Stage Management, Production leadership, parents/guardians, and the New York State Department of Labor on all matters related to child performer compliance and welfare.
Enforce New York State Department of Labor child performer regulations, including work hours, rest periods, meal breaks, and educational requirements, and ensure all team members do the same.
Own and maintain accurate attendance logs, incident reports, and all documentation for child performers; audit records regularly for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure all required work permits, badging, and credentialing for child performers are current and properly maintained.
Track and enforce allowable work hours, required break periods, and tutoring time in accordance with applicable regulations.
Escort children to and from backstage areas, dressing rooms, stages, and other production spaces as needed; oversee team coverage of all escort duties.
Communicate proactively and professionally with parents, guardians, production staff, and stage management regarding child performer status and any concerns.
Administer basic first aid as needed and escalate medical or safety issues immediately.
Monitor and maintain a safe, supportive, and positive environment for all child performers.
Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.
What Do You Need to Succeed?
Prior experience in childcare, youth programming, education, or child supervision in a performance/entertainment setting preferred; prior team leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred
Familiarity with New York State and City child performer labor laws and Department of Labor requirements
CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with parents, children, production staff, and stage management
Ability to maintain accurate records, manage attendance logs, handle incident documentation, and audit team recordkeeping
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and coordinate a team in a fast-paced production environment
Patient, calm, and nurturing demeanor with the ability to manage groups of children and guide team members under pressure
decision-making skills with the ability to respond quickly and appropriately to safety, behavioral, or compliance concerns and escalate as needed
Special Requirements
Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout Radio City Music Hall and rehearsal spaces for extended periods, including backstage areas and multiple building levels.
Must be available to work a seasonal schedule aligned with the CSSR production calendar, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and multi-show days.
Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations and physically escort child performers through the venue as needed.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and split days off; willing to travel to other venues as needed.
