Role Description The Undergraduate Research Assistant is a part-time, remote position that supports educational and organizational research initiatives across the Compton Unified School District. In this role, the assistant gathers, organizes, and analyzes data related to student outcomes, school programs, and district initiatives under the guidance of supervising staff or faculty. Daily tasks include conducting literature reviews, assisting with survey or interview design, compiling data sets, and preparing summaries or visualizations of findings. The assistant may help draft research briefs, presentations, or reports that inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts. Collaboration with team members, timely communication, and adherence to research ethics and data confidentiality are essential aspects of the role.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong Analytical Skills and Data Analysis abilities to interpret educational data and identify trends.
Candidates should possess solid Research skills, including literature review, information gathering, and basic study design.
Candidates should possess effective Communication skills for writing clear summaries, preparing presentations, and collaborating with supervisors and peers.
Candidates should possess Laboratory Skills or equivalent experience with structured data collection and documentation, where applicable.
Candidates should be enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate program in education, psychology, sociology, public policy, statistics, or a related field.
Candidates should be comfortable working remotely, managing time independently, and using digital tools such as spreadsheets, presentation software, and online collaboration platforms.
Candidates with experience in K–12 educational settings, familiarity with research ethics, or basic statistical software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R) are preferred.
