Job Title: Fractional CFO & Controller (Construction)
Hours: Part-Time / Fractional
Schedule: Alaska Time (AKST/AKDT), with a monthly close and reporting calendar
Trampetti is looking for an experienced construction-finance professional (or a paired CFO and Controller) to support a construction and environmental remediation client with executive-level financial leadership and hands-on accounting management. This role focuses on WIP and project-profitability oversight, monthly close and management reporting, and joint venture (JV) accounting across related entities. You'll work closely with the client's ownership, project managers, and full-time Assistant Controller to deliver an accurate, decision-ready view of the company's financial position, project performance, and forward outlook every month.
Key Responsibilities
Fractional CFO – Financial Leadership
Lead strategic financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning for growth
Own cash-flow and working-capital strategy, including a rolling 13-week cash-flow forecast
Oversee WIP and project profitability, including projected final margins and cost-to-complete
Set JV financial strategy and structure, and oversee combined/consolidated financial reporting
Prepare financial packages for sureties and banks; manage bonding, LOC, debt, and DSCR analysis
Develop management-level KPIs and mentor the internal accounting/finance function
Fractional Controller – Accounting & Close
Run the monthly financial close and year-end close, including balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare and reconcile the monthly WIP schedule, incorporating PM-provided cost-to-complete, contract modifications, and billing status
Reconcile job costs, retainage, progress billing, and over/under billings
Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger; maintain Sage 100 Contractor reporting and data integrity
Handle JV accounting, intercompany transactions, and allocation of costs, revenue, overhead, and profit between JV partners
Coordinate with the outside CPA, tax advisors, banks, and sureties
Document accounting procedures and internal controls
Monthly Management Package & Reporting Cadence
Deliver a concise monthly management package no later than the 15th of the following month (subject to JV reporting dependencies)
Include consolidated and entity-level P&L and Balance Sheet, actual-to-budget variances, balance-of-year forecast, and break-even/revenue-target analysis
Report on AR/AP performance, staff utilization/billability, and operational KPIs such as revenue per employee
Provide an executive dashboard and CFO commentary on trends, risks, opportunities, and recommended management actions
Recommend and maintain a close calendar defining inputs, owners, due dates, review steps, and escalation for missing information
Tools
Sage 100 Contractor — core accounting system for job costing, WIP, payroll, AP, GL, and financial reporting
hh2 — Sage-integrated payroll, AP, timekeeping, and field workflows; integration and reconciliation oversight
Microsoft Excel / reporting tools — WIP schedules, forecasts, cash-flow models, and executive dashboards
Experience with other construction accounting or dashboard platforms is a plus — candidates are encouraged to bring ideas from past experience
Required Qualifications
10+ years of experience in construction accounting and finance, including CFO- or Controller-level responsibility
Demonstrated hands-on experience with Sage 100 Contractor across multiple clients, including WIP, job costing, payroll, AP, GL, and financial reporting
Working knowledge of construction WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, retainage, and progress-billing cycles
Experience with construction JV accounting and combined/consolidated financial statements involving related entities
Experience preparing financial packages for sureties/bonding and banks
Strong written English communication skills; clear, professional, and organized
Highly organized with strong attention to detail, especially when handling WIP, reconciliations, JV allocations, and consolidated reporting
Prior experience supporting a US-based construction company, ideally one performing government contracts
Preferred (Nice to Have)
Experience with hh2 or similar Sage-integrated payroll, AP, timekeeping, and field systems
Familiarity with federal construction and environmental contracting
Experience managing or supporting an internal construction accounting department
CPA or equivalent accounting certification

Adherence to the client's time zone and schedule is a must (Alaska Time – AKST/AKDT)
Availability for recurring monthly close deadlines and management-package reviews with ownership
