SECTION 1 – Position Summary
The Director of Product Management is a strategic leadership role within the Product Creation Department responsible for defining, managing, and optimizing the company's product portfolio, product lifecycle, and line architecture to support profitable growth, market leadership, and consumer-driven innovation.
Serving as the commercial and strategic voice of Product Creation, this role connects market opportunity, consumer insights, competitive intelligence, innovation, and business objectives into a cohesive product strategy. The Director will lead line planning, portfolio management, market viability assessments, lifecycle management, and end-of-life decisions while ensuring alignment between Innovation, Product Development, Product Performance, Commercial, Marketing, Operations, and Executive Leadership.
This position will help establish and govern the processes, tools, documentation, and product workbooks that enable disciplined product decision-making across the organization. The individual will be responsible for ensuring every product has a clear strategic purpose, differentiated positioning, measurable market opportunity, and a defined path from concept through commercialization and eventual retirement.
The Director of Product Management will play a critical role in the organization’s approach toward a market-leading, consumer-centric, innovation-driven Product Creation model focused on delivering sustainable, high-quality thermoregulating solutions.
SECTION 2 – Duties and Responsibilities
Product Portfolio Strategy & Management:
Own and manage the overall product portfolio strategy across all product categories, technologies, and market segments.
Ensure the portfolio aligns with corporate growth objectives, innovation priorities, consumer needs, and commercial opportunities.
Evaluate product performance, market probability, position to win, relevance, profitability, and strategic fit throughout the product lifecycle.
Establish portfolio rationalization processes to optimize complexity, eliminate redundancy, and improve resource allocation…from conception, through growth/maturity, and into retirement.
Define and manage product hierarchies, architecture, and platform strategies.
Lead annual and multi-year portfolio planning activities, including product naming & legal trademarking.
Leadership & Organizational Development:
Serve as the primary advocate for Product Creation priorities and perspectives across the organization and with brand partners.
Represent Product Management in strategic planning, commercial reviews, business discussions, and executive forums.
Help define, develop, and implement frameworks that improve decision quality, cross-functional alignment, and speed to market.
Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing Product Management team by establishing clear goals, development plans, and performance expectations.
Foster a culture of accountability, consumer focus, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Deliverables:
Product platform, architecture, and line plan roadmaps with seasonal portfolio recommendations.
Product lifecycle management and feature-benefit-positioning frameworks.
End-of-life decision process and portfolio rationalization strategy.
Portfolio health dashboards/reporting tools, competitive SWOT analyses, and market reviews.
Product Creation workbooks and governance systems.
Sales Support collateral, data visualizations, and product presentations.
SECTION 3 – Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business, Apparel/Textile Design, Materials Science, Product Development, or related field; MBA is a plus.
10+ years of experience in product/portfolio management, product creation, business strategy, or product marketing; experience in materials science, apparel/textile, or an ingredient-brand business strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience building and owning a product roadmap or portfolio strategy, including prioritization frameworks, lifecycle management, and business cases.
Comfortable with PLM or similar product data/workbook systems.
Strong understanding of thermoregulation, thermal comfort, insulation technologies, moisture management, and performance materials.
Cross-functional leadership skills; track record influencing executive decision-making.
Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate technical and materials-science detail for non-technical, executive, and brand-partner audiences.
Experience presenting to senior leadership and brand-partner-facing experience; with excellent analytical, financial, organizational, presentation, and communication abilities.
SECTION 4 – Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Job position will be Full-Time/Exempt, Remote location, with regular travel to Latham, NY as needed. (As per updated Employee Handbook policy.)
Will require travel to vendors, manufacturing facilities, and to customers for sales support, product development and integration. Travel will be both domestic and international, up to 33% of time.
High paced work environment with ability to perform multiple tasks with effectiveness and efficiency.
