PROJECT BASED CONSTRUCTION MANAGER -- This is NOT Remote (Based in IL)
Summary:
The Industrial Construction Manager is a contract/project-based opportunity that is located in Illinois. Position will oversee an on-going project where the client is replacing an obsolete PLC5 / Wonderware process controls system with the Emerson Delta V process controls system as well as a Fire Suppression Upgrade.
Candidates should have some Industrial Electrical Controls/Automation experience working in a plant / refinery environment. This contract opportunity will offer a competitive hourly rate of $80-$90 per hour, overtime over 40 hours, per diem of $178 per day/paid 7 day, mobilization bonus up to $3k, benefits - medical, dental, vision and 401k, and PTO.
Key Responsibilities
The Industrial Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing all construction activities for a short-term industrial installation project within a manufacturing environment. This role will provide on-site leadership, ensure safety and quality standards are met, and hold all trades accountable to the approved project plan and schedule. The Construction Manager will serve as the primary point of coordination between contractors, site leadership, and internal stakeholders for the duration of the project.
Maintain full accountability for all trades working on the project, ensuring adherence to the approved project plan, schedule, scope, and safety requirements.
Serve as the on-site construction lead for the duration of the project, providing daily presence and leadership.
Lead daily construction huddle meetings to review planned work, safety topics, risks, and constraints; document actions and follow up as required using an action register.
Champion a strong safety culture by enforcing site safety rules, conducting safety briefings, identifying hazards, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and company standards.
Manages site logistics, consumables, materials, and rental equipment tracking.
Oversee installation/commissioning activities on all aspects of assigned projects.
Collaborate with contractors, engineers, operations, and plant leadership to resolve issues, manage changes, and maintain schedule commitments.
Monitor construction progress daily and take proactive actions to mitigate risks, delays, or conflicts.
Ensure work is completed according to drawings, specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
Support commissioning and turnover activities as required at project completion.
Required Qualifications
Proven experience working in an industrial or manufacturing construction environment.
Strong working knowledge of construction sequencing, contractor coordination, and safety management.
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead teams, manage multiple trades, and drive accountability.
Willing and able to work nights and weekends as required to meet project demands.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to be on-site full-time for the duration of the project.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Experience with DCS System installs.
Background in fast-paced, schedule-driven construction projects within active manufacturing facilities.
Quality, Compliance & Safety
Enforcing strict adherence to safety policies, procedures, and regulations (e.g., Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures, Permit to Work (PTW).
Conducting regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections.
Identifying and mitigating potential hazards and risks related to work.
Ensuring installations comply with standards, specification and quality management systems.
Conducting regular quality checks and inspections, addressing non-compliance issues, and implementing corrective actions.
Participating in quality audits and site inspections.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in LV/MV/HV systems, motors, UPS systems, PLC, SCADA and grounding.
Experience with cable laying, cable tray installation, and cable pulling activities.
Solid knowledge of quality management systems and HSE procedures.
Ability to read and interpret execution drawings (P&IDs, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, etc.).
Ability to lead system completion process (walkdowns, punch lists, loop checks).
Strong understanding of hazardous area equipment (junction boxes, gland types, etc.)Knowledge of testing requirements for various E&I equipment.
