About Albatross Advisors
Albatross Advisors is a growing finance and accounting firm providing outsourced accounting, controller, and CFO services and are now building the team and infrastructure for the next stage of the firm. This will be one of our first key hires and will work closely with the founder across client delivery, team management, process improvement, and the systems we use to run the business.
The Role
We’re looking for an Accounting Manager to take ownership of day-to-day accounting and client delivery across a portfolio of clients.
You’ll manage accounting processes, monthly closes, communicate directly with clients, keep deliverables moving, and make sure things don’t fall through the cracks. You’ll also have a meaningful role in improving how the firm operates as we grow.
This is a good fit for an experienced Senior in public accounting who is ready for a Manager role and wants more ownership than a traditional firm can offer. The accounting itself generally isn’t overly complex. Success in this role is much more about being able to manage a lot of moving pieces, stay ahead of deadlines, solve problems independently, and continually find better ways to get the work done.
You’ll join a small team, so there won’t be layers of management or established processes for everything. You’ll have a lot of autonomy and will play a significant role in deciding how we operate as the company grows.
What You’ll Do
Own the monthly close and recurring accounting process for a portfolio of clients.
Review financial statements, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documents.
Manage deadlines and deliverables across multiple clients at the same time.
Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and build strong relationships with their finance teams and executives.
Lead recurring client meetings and make sure follow-up items are completed.
Onboard new clients and help transition their accounting processes, systems, and historical information into Albatross.
Build and maintain SOPs so recurring work is documented, efficient, and repeatable.
Identify manual, redundant, or inefficient processes and find better ways to handle them.
Use technology, automation, and AI where they meaningfully improve the quality or efficiency of our work.
Build and improve Excel models, reporting packages, dashboards, and other client deliverables.
Evaluate accounting and finance technology and help determine what Albatross and our clients should adopt.
Help hire, train, and manage additional team members as the company grows.
Question existing processes when they don’t make sense and be willing to recommend a better approach.
What We’re Looking For
CPA (required)
Approximately 3–7 years of accounting experience, including experience in public accounting.
Currently operating at the experienced Senior or early Manager level.
Strong accounting fundamentals and a solid understanding of GAAP.
Excellent Excel skills. You should be genuinely good at Excel and comfortable figuring out how to build something rather than relying on an existing template.
Exceptional organization and follow-through. You can manage a large number of simultaneous deadlines without things getting lost.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort working directly with clients and senior executives.
Good judgment and the ability to work independently without needing constant direction.
A natural tendency to look for efficiencies and question why a process works the way it does.
Comfort learning new technology and experimenting with better tools and workflows.
An entrepreneurial mindset. You think about how something should work when we have twice as many clients, not just how to get through this month.
A willingness to jump between detailed accounting work, client conversations, process improvement, and whatever else needs to get done.
Experience with QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Bill.com, Stripe, Power BI, or similar modern finance tools is helpful, but we care much more about your ability to learn new systems quickly than whether you’ve used our exact technology stack.
Nice to Have
Experience managing or mentoring junior staff.
Client Accounting Services or outsourced accounting experience.
Experience implementing accounting systems or automating financial processes.
Advanced Excel experience, including financial models and management reporting.
Experience using AI or emerging technology to improve accounting workflows.
Collegiate athletics or another background that required balancing a demanding schedule with academics or professional responsibilities.
What Success Looks Like
In your first few months, you’ll learn our clients and processes and begin to take ownership of recurring accounting work. You’ll start taking work off the founder’s plate while identifying areas where our current processes can be simplified, automated, or documented better.
Over time, you should become the person who owns client delivery. Clients should trust you, the team should know what needs to get done, and deadlines should happen without the founder needing to manage them.
Longer term, this role can grow significantly as Albatross grows. We expect this person to help shape how we serve clients, how we use technology, how we build the team, and how the accounting side of the firm operates.
As we add clients, the goal isn’t to simply add more work. We want to continually improve our processes, use technology intelligently, and build an operation that can scale without adding unnecessary complexity or headcount.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive base salary.
Performance based bonus.
Fully remote within the U.S.
Flexible work environment.
CPA dues and continuing education reimbursement.
Home office and technology support.
Significant opportunity for increased responsibility, compensation, and leadership as the firm grows.
Albatross is small today, and that’s a meaningful part of the opportunity. You’ll be joining early enough to have a real impact on how we operate, what we build, who we hire, and what your own role becomes as the company grows.
