About the role
We're looking for a Tech Lead to own the technical direction of a .NET team building and evolving a suite of web APIs and internal applications for a US-based client. This is a hands-on position: you'll spend a good part of your week in the code, but you're also the person the team turns to when a design decision needs to be made, when a delivery is at risk, or when a junior developer needs someone to walk them through a problem.
What you'll do
• Lead the design and implementation of REST APIs built on ASP.NET Core, from data model through deployment.
• Set and enforce coding standards; run code reviews that actually teach people something.
• Make architecture calls on data access (Entity Framework Core, LINQ, raw SQL where it makes sense), caching, and service boundaries.
• Own the database layer on Microsoft SQL Server: schema design, stored procedures, indexing strategy, and query tuning when something is slow in production.
• Guide the team on asynchronous and multithreaded code: async/await, Task-based patterns, thread safety, and knowing when parallelism is worth the complexity.
• Own the Azure side of the solution: App Services, Azure SQL, Storage, Key Vault, Application Insights, and CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Work directly with the client's stakeholders to break down requirements, estimate, and push back when something doesn't add up.
• Mentor developers at every level, run technical onboarding, and step in on the hard bugs.
• Keep an eye on the Angular front end so API contracts and UI needs stay aligned.
What we need from you
• 8+ years of professional software development, with at least 5 in C#/.NET and 2+ leading a team.
• Deep understanding of OOP and SOLID in C#; you can explain why a design is wrong, not just that it is.
• Strong grasp of HTTP and how web technologies work end to end: verbs, status codes, headers, auth flows, CORS, content negotiation.
• Strong SQL Server skills: relational design, normalization, advanced T-SQL (CTEs, window functions, dynamic SQL where justified), stored procedures, indexing, and reading execution plans to fix performance problems.
• Production experience with Entity Framework and LINQ, including the performance traps.
• Real experience shipping to Azure and troubleshooting there.
• Comfortable leading people: giving direct feedback, running planning, handling conflict inside the team.
• Strong written and spoken English; you'll be talking to the client daily.
