Overview:
Our client is an established national provider of claims administration and risk management services. The organization supports public-sector entities, self-insured organizations, and commercial clients with complex claims-management needs. Our client is seeking an experienced Claims Supervisor to manage a claims unit focused primarily on New York automobile and No-Fault claims, including claims involving governmental entities. Under minimal supervision, the Claims Supervisor will direct the daily activities of claims examiners and administrative personnel while ensuring claims are handled accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable state laws, client requirements, and internal procedures. Qualified candidates must have working knowledge of Article 51 of the New York Insurance Law, New York No-Fault requirements, and New York Insurance Regulation 68.
What you will be doing:
The Claims Supervisor will directly supervise Claims Examiners and Claims Assistants and may also supervise administrative and clerical personnel.
Monitoring attendance, productivity, work quality, and overall employee performance
Conducting performance evaluations and addressing disciplinary matters when necessary
Providing coaching, technical guidance, and ongoing professional development
Ensuring daily caseload and staffing requirements are met
Providing claims coverage during employee vacations, absences, and vacancies
Manage the daily operations and performance of the assigned claims unit.
Review initial and periodic claim evaluations, delays, denials, reserve changes, awards, payments, and other scheduled claim activities.
Review and approve reserve changes within assigned authority, up to $250,000.
Review and approve claim payments within assigned authority, up to $10,000.
Conduct monthly and client-required file reviews to monitor compliance with applicable laws, internal procedures, and client service instructions.
Ensure compliance with New York automobile and No-Fault claim requirements, including Article 51 and Regulation 68.
Supervise and approve priority payments.
Respond to concerns raised by claimants, clients, medical providers, vendors, and other involved parties.
Monitor vendor performance and recommend modifications to vendor panels when necessary.
Ensure all client-specific servicing instructions and reporting requirements are followed.
Prepare, review, and evaluate weekly and monthly client reports.
Coordinate and facilitate internal, external, client, and regulatory audits.
Lead training sessions regarding updated laws, claims procedures, client requirements, and company policies.
Conduct and document internal and external educational sessions.
Participate in client meetings and claim-file reviews.
Work with corporate leadership and client-service teams on requests for proposals and service-related matters.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What you must have:
High school diploma or GED
Three to five years of related automobile claims experience
Previous claims leadership, supervisory, or team-lead experience
Valid New York adjuster license and any other licenses required by applicable state regulations
Strong knowledge of New York automobile and No-Fault claims
Knowledge of Article 51 of the New York Insurance Law and Regulation 68
Technical knowledge of applicable statutory regulations and medical terminology
Familiarity with Arbitration Forums and the American Arbitration Association
Experience working with a diary system, prioritizing assignments, and meeting strict deadlines
Strong analytical and claim-file review skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to explain technical claim information clearly to claimants, clients, employees, and other stakeholders
Ability to supervise, coach, and develop employees with varying levels of experience
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Nice to have:
Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, risk management, or a related field
Experience managing claims involving governmental or public-sector entities
Experience participating in client audits and claim-file reviews
Experience preparing client reports and delivering claims-related training
