The Director, Donor Stewardship and Engagement will oversee the transformation and creation of a comprehensive multi-channel donor stewardship program and any staff who will infuse innovative stewardship and engagement strategies throughout the entire donor continuum to increase donor retention and long-term value, and drive pipeline development.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)
Lead the development, management, implementation, execution, and evaluation of all donor stewardship programs, processes, and systems, organization-wide — across departments and fundraising programs— to optimize the effectiveness of broad-based stewardship strategies across all donor levels.
Lead strategic planning for donor stewardship — working in collaboration with Development team leaders, develop and implement initiatives that focus on increasing innovation and sophistication in the cultivation, recognition, acknowledgment, and stewardship of a diverse population of donors to inspire their increased engagement and philanthropy.
Introduce new, innovative methods to build the pipeline for principal and major gifts, cultivate top donors, recognize leadership gifts, and inspire ongoing transformational support for the USO's fundraising priorities.
Develop and implement multi-channel strategies to provide appropriate, meaningful information to donors and/or donor families about the use and impact of gifts.
Develop, implement, and monitor donor stewardship policies and procedures with particular consideration for gift compliance, gift administration, and donor reporting standards.
Oversee coordination of acknowledgment of gifts across all donation levels - ensuring they are executed in a timely and impactful manner.
Manage the execution of stewardship strategies across all development teams - including any directly managed staff - as part of a comprehensive stewardship plan.
Job Specifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
10+ years of experience developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating donor stewardship strategies, initiatives, and programs, including 5+ years in a supervisory capacity.
A successful track record of executing innovative, entrepreneurial donor stewardship strategic approaches guided by best practices in relationship management strategies and technologies, pipeline development, and donor engagement communications.
Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
Must show initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities. Ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
Demonstrated skills in analysis and problem-solving, as well as strategic goal-setting, business planning, and successful implementation of new programs or services.
Effective strategic planning experience with the ability to quantify measurable short- and long-range goals.
Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver’s license.
Must be a strong advocate of the USO’s mission.

This is a remote position.
The salary range for this position is $84,000-$110,250.
To support pay transparency, this posting includes the anticipated base salary range for this role. Compensation is determined based on several factors including geographic location, relevant experience, specialized skills, certifications, and overall alignment with the position requirements. Our compensation practices are designed to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity across roles and levels.
