Experience
4+ years of proven hands-on experience supporting IBM i (AS400/iSeries) operating systems in enterprise production environments.
2+ years of demonstrated production support experience in one or more of the following areas: Microsoft Azure (preferred), AWS, Windows Server, Linux, VMware, Enterprise Storage, or Backup technologies.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate real-world implementation, administration, troubleshooting, and production support experience across the technologies listed above during technical interviews.
Key Responsibilities
Required Skills Perform IBM i (AS400/iSeries) administration, including system installation, IBM Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs), software installation, configuration, HMC/LPAR administration, security administration, and operating system maintenance.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of IBM i hardware, server resources, system performance, scheduled jobs, backups, and critical system processes.
Recommend, schedule, and implement IBM i hardware/software upgrades, PTFs, operating system upgrades, maintenance activities, and infrastructure improvements.
Perform problem isolation, root cause analysis, incident resolution, and follow-up for IBM i software, hardware, application, and user-reported issues in a production environment.
Review system and application logs, verify scheduled jobs, backup completion, and maintain High Availability (MIMIX/PowerHA) and Disaster Recovery environments.
Install, upgrade, configure, test, and maintain IBM i and third-party software applications.
Control user access, manage user profiles, authorities, passwords, and maintain a secure IBM i environment including SOX compliance activities.
Administer and maintain the Automic scheduling environment and support enterprise batch operations.
Provide L2 operational support across Linux servers, Microsoft Azure (preferred) or AWS cloud environments, VMware, enterprise storage, and backup platforms (Veeam/ExaGrid or equivalent).
Participate in infrastructure automation initiatives using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar scripting technologies.
Collaborate with Infrastructure, Network, Security, Storage, and Application teams on production support, planned maintenance, infrastructure projects, and operational improvements.
Participate in on-call support for emergency Change Requests (CRs), Priority-1 (P1) incidents, planned maintenance, and Disaster Recovery activities.
Prepare operational documentation, support internal/external audits, and continuously identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency
Required Skills
Proven hands-on experience in IBM i (AS400/iSeries) Administration within enterprise production environments.
Proven experience with IBM Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs), HMC, LPAR Administration, BRMS, IBM i Security Administration, User Profile Management, High Availability/Disaster Recovery (MIMIX/PowerHA or equivalent), Automic, CL (Control Language), Query/400, SQL Principles, DB2, FTP/SFTP, TCP/IP, IBM MQ, Client Access (iSeries Access), and SOX Compliance.
Proven hands-on experience supporting Windows Server and/or Linux Administration in production environments.
Demonstrated operational experience supporting Microsoft Azure (preferred) or AWS Cloud Administration, including infrastructure monitoring, user administration, operational support, and incident resolution.
Proven experience with VMware Administration, Enterprise Storage Administration, and Enterprise Backup platforms (Veeam, ExaGrid, or equivalent).
Experience working within ITIL-based production support environments covering Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and customer-facing skills with the ability to independently handle production incidents and infrastructure issues.
Experience with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar scripting technologies for automation and operational efficiency.
Preferred Skills
Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise infrastructure across multiple technology domains in addition to IBM i.
Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Dell PowerEdge Platforms, SAN/NAS Storage.
VMware vSphere Administration.
Azure and/or AWS infrastructure administration.
Infrastructure automation using PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
Monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, or equivalent.
JDE World, JDE OneWorld, Hawkeye, DBU, Crystal Reports.
