Position Overview
Phoenix Staff is seeking a Water Quality Implementation Consultant / Subject Matter Expert to lead customer-facing software implementations for organizations in the water and wastewater sector. This role combines hands-on software implementation with water quality and regulatory expertise, serving as a key functional resource throughout the customer implementation lifecycle.
The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of software implementation experience and practical knowledge of water quality, wastewater, utility operations, or environmental compliance. Highly relevant backgrounds include professionals who have implemented LIMS or other water-focused software; water or wastewater utility professionals who understand utility processes and are advanced users of operational or compliance software; and water-sector engineering or consulting professionals whose experience has a significant software or technology component.
This position will work directly with customers to understand their processes, regulatory requirements, reporting needs, and workflows and translate those requirements into effective software configurations. The role will also lead functional workshops, testing, training, go-live activities, and ongoing customer adoption.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a water quality subject matter expert throughout customer software implementations.
Lead customer discovery sessions, functional workshops, platform walkthroughs, and software training.
Understand and document customer processes related to water quality, regulatory reporting, compliance, operations, dashboards, and workflows.
Translate water and wastewater requirements into practical software configurations and functional solutions.
Configure customer-facing functionality, including dashboards, reports, workflows, alerts, and user permissions.
Partner with technical implementation resources to review migrated data and verify accuracy, completeness, and alignment with customer and regulatory requirements.
Conduct end-to-end functional testing and coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) with customer stakeholders.
Guide customers on effective platform usage by applying knowledge of water quality, compliance requirements, and utility operations.
Train end users and customer stakeholders on system functionality, workflows, reporting, and day-to-day platform use.
Support go-live and post-launch stabilization, helping customers transition successfully into production.
Coordinate with implementation project management to keep functional activities aligned with project milestones, timelines, and customer expectations.
Maintain documentation covering customer requirements, configurations, workflows, testing outcomes, and implementation decisions.
Communicate customer needs and product feedback to Product and Engineering teams to support ongoing platform improvements.
Manage responsibilities across multiple customer implementations while maintaining clear communication and organization.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in software implementation, implementation consulting, functional consulting, water quality, utility operations, environmental consulting, or a related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of water quality, wastewater, environmental compliance, utility operations, or related regulatory processes.
Experience working with software in a water, wastewater, laboratory, environmental, or regulated utility environment.
Strong preference for candidates who combine water-sector subject matter expertise with hands-on software implementation or advanced software usage.
Relevant backgrounds may include implementing LIMS, water quality, compliance, or utility software; working within a water or wastewater utility as an advanced software user; or providing water-sector engineering or consulting services with a substantial software component.
Ability to understand utility and regulatory processes and translate customer requirements into software workflows, configurations, and reporting solutions.
Experience working directly with customers or stakeholders in an implementation, consulting, professional services, SaaS, utility, or similar environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead customer meetings, requirements workshops, demonstrations, and training sessions.
Strong organizational and documentation skills with the ability to support multiple customer engagements concurrently.
Preferred Skills
Experience implementing or supporting Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), water quality management systems, or similar utility software.
Experience with water-industry software platforms such as Hach WIMS or comparable solutions.
Direct experience working for or closely with water/wastewater utilities, municipalities, laboratories, or regulated infrastructure operators.
Water or environmental engineering or consulting experience with a strong software, data, or technology component.
Familiarity with EPA reporting requirements, state regulatory systems, and water-sector compliance processes.
Knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Consumer Confidence Reports (CCR), or related water compliance programs.
Experience configuring workflow-driven SaaS applications, dashboards, reports, alerts, and other end-user functionality.
Experience with functional testing, UAT, software go-lives, and post-implementation stabilization.
Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) credential.
Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Claude, or comparable project management, documentation, and AI productivity tools.
