Senior Security Engineer, DeFi

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Security Engineer, DeFi based in the Canada .
This role focuses on protecting decentralized finance systems and strengthening security across a rapidly evolving blockchain environment. You’ll bring senior-level security expertise to the design, development, and operation of DeFi products and infrastructure. The position offers the opportunity to work on complex security challenges where technical rigor, proactive risk management, and deep understanding of decentralized systems are essential. You’ll collaborate with engineering and security teams to identify vulnerabilities, improve security practices, and build resilient systems. The role is suited to an experienced security professional who enjoys working with emerging technologies and solving difficult technical problems. You’ll operate in a remote, globally distributed environment with significant autonomy and opportunities for continuous learning.
Accountabilities
Design, implement, and continuously improve security measures for decentralized finance applications, protocols, and supporting infrastructure.
Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks across DeFi systems, smart contract environments, blockchain infrastructure, and related technologies.
Conduct security reviews, threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and other technical analyses to identify potential attack vectors and weaknesses.
Partner closely with engineering teams to integrate security principles throughout the software and product development lifecycle.
Investigate security incidents and vulnerabilities, supporting remediation efforts and helping strengthen defensive capabilities.
Develop and improve security processes, tooling, monitoring, and controls to increase the resilience of DeFi systems.
Contribute technical expertise to security architecture and design decisions for new and existing systems.
Stay current with emerging blockchain, DeFi, smart contract, and application security threats and translate relevant developments into practical security improvements.
Collaborate across technical teams to promote secure engineering practices and a strong security culture.
Requirements
Senior-level experience in security engineering, application security, blockchain security, or a closely related discipline.
Strong understanding of decentralized finance, blockchain technologies, smart contracts, and associated security risks.
Demonstrated experience identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities in complex technical systems.
Strong knowledge of security architecture, threat modeling, vulnerability assessment, secure software development, and security best practices.
Experience working closely with software engineers and other technical stakeholders on security-focused initiatives.
Ability to analyze complex systems, identify potential attack paths, and develop practical mitigation strategies.
Strong programming and technical problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to understand and review complex codebases.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain security risks and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
High degree of autonomy, ownership, curiosity, and attention to detail.
Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where technologies, threats, and priorities evolve rapidly.
A strong interest in emerging technologies and a willingness to continuously develop expertise in blockchain and DeFi security.

$165,000–$225,000 US base salary range, with individual compensation determined by skills, experience, education, training, and other job-related factors.
