Backend Software Engineer

**About the Role**
BJAK is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to build the core systems behind its AI Neobank app. This role focuses on developing reliable APIs, backend services, workflows, and financial product infrastructure that can scale across markets, partners, and millions of users.
You’ll work closely with product, mobile, operations, and business teams to deliver customer-facing financial experiences while maintaining strong standards for reliability, security, observability, performance, data quality, and operational readiness.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Build backend services, APIs, and workflows supporting the AI Neobank app.
* Develop and support products across insurance, payments, wallets, savings, investing, travel, and other financial services.
* Design reliable systems for user accounts, transactions, partner integrations, reconciliation, notifications, and operational workflows.
* Collaborate with product and mobile engineering teams to deliver customer-facing journeys efficiently.
* Integrate backend systems with banks, payment gateways, insurers, data providers, and other third-party partners.
* Improve system reliability, observability, security, and performance.
* Build practical and auditable systems suitable for regulated financial products.
* Identify and address production issues, operational edge cases, and data-quality concerns.
* Make thoughtful engineering trade-offs between development speed, product quality, reliability, and risk.
**Required Qualifications**
* 3+ years of experience in backend software engineering.
* Strong fundamentals in API development, databases, system design, and production debugging.
* Experience building scalable backend services.
* Experience integrating third-party systems and external partners.
* Understanding of security, reliability, data quality, and operational edge cases.
* Ability to make practical trade-offs between speed, quality, and risk.
* Comfortable collaborating with product, mobile, operations, and business teams.
**Preferred Qualifications**
* Experience in fintech, payments, insurance, lending, banking, or other regulated financial products.
* Experience working with financial transactions, payment integrations, reconciliation, or partner systems.
* Experience building backend infrastructure for products serving large user populations.
