Signage Designer & Project Coordinator

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Signage Designer & Project Coordinator who understands the sign industry and enjoys combining graphic design, technical knowledge, project organization, and customer communication.
This is more than a traditional graphic design position.
You'll work closely with our signage sales and installation specialist to help manage projects from initial concept through production and completion.
Your role will involve preparing artwork, reviewing specifications, coordinating project details, communicating with customers, and helping ensure that every job moves smoothly through the production process.
We are looking for someone who understands how signage is actually made, not just how to design it.
Previous professional experience in signage and/or large-format printing is required. This position is not intended for general graphic designers without relevant industry experience.
Installation is not required. This position focuses on the design, planning, preparation, and coordination of signage projects.
While we prefer someone located in Santa Barbara or Ventura County, we are open to remote candidates with relevant industry experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesSignage Design & Artwork Preparation
Design and prepare artwork for wall graphics, window graphics, banners, vehicle graphics, rigid signs, and other signage applications.
Prepare accurate, print-ready files using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Set up large-format artwork, including paneling and tiling for oversized graphics and wall vinyl installations.
Review measurements, dimensions, bleeds, resolution, colors, and other production specifications.
Create customer proofs and process artwork revisions.
Ensure artwork is technically accurate and suitable for the intended materials and installation requirements.
Troubleshoot artwork and file preparation issues before projects move into production.
Signage Project Coordination
Work closely with our signage sales and installation specialist to coordinate active projects from concept through completion.
Organize project details, artwork, measurements, materials, deadlines, and production requirements.
Coordinate with internal production staff and outside vendors as needed.
Track project progress and help ensure jobs are completed on schedule.
Identify potential artwork, production, or installation challenges before they cause delays or costly mistakes.
Maintain organized digital files, artwork, proofs, and project documentation.
Help improve internal processes and workflows as our signage division continues to grow.
Customer Communication & Support
Communicate with customers regarding artwork, proofs, project specifications, revisions, and production timelines.
Assist customers with signage-related questions and design options.
Coordinate artwork revisions and customer approvals.
Provide project updates and help ensure a smooth customer experience.
Support our customer service team with signage-related inquiries and occasional general printing projects when needed.
Production Support & Quality Control
Collaborate with production staff to ensure artwork and project specifications are accurate and complete.
Review digital proofs and production files for quality and accuracy.
Understand how different materials, printing methods, finishing techniques, and installation requirements affect artwork preparation.
Help troubleshoot production-related questions and resolve issues as they arise.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of professional experience in the signage and/or large-format printing industry.
Experience preparing production-ready artwork for signs, banners, wall graphics, window graphics, and other large-format applications.
Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
Understanding of signage materials, production processes, measurements, scaling, resolution, bleeds, and file preparation.
Experience with paneling and tiling artwork for oversized graphics and vinyl installations.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent attention to detail, particularly with measurements, specifications, and artwork accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate with a team, including remotely.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change.
Additional Experience That Is a Plus
Previous signage project coordination or project management experience.
Customer service experience within a sign or print shop.
Familiarity with signage installation requirements.
Experience working with outside signage vendors and coordinating outsourced production.
Familiarity with common signage materials, including vinyl, aluminum composite panels, PVC, acrylic, banners, and other rigid and flexible substrates.
Experience with sign production equipment, vinyl cutting, laminating, or finishing processes.
Formal graphic design education is not required. We value hands-on industry experience, technical knowledge, problem-solving ability, and a strong portfolio of relevant work.
