Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities:
Lead backend architecture and system design for core data and marketing platforms.
Make technical trade-offs regarding scalability, reliability, maintainability, and cost.
Partner with product managers and business teams to refine requirements and align scope/timelines.
Own stakeholder communication, risk management, and technical alignment.
Lead post-incident reviews and implement resilience improvements.
Design, develop, and deliver scalable, secure, high-performance backend systems.
Analyse and understand existing legacy systems and their limitations.
Write clean, well-documented, maintainable, and testable code.
Champion Agile practices and participate in the full development lifecycle.
Perform and participate in code reviews, ensuring quality standards.
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Mentor and guide junior engineers.
Requirements:
8+ years of experience designing and leading backend systems at scale.
Strong experience with APIs (gRPC, REST).
Proficiency in Go (preferred), Python/Django, or Java/Spring.
Strong CI/CD and DevOps experience.
Experience building cloud-based systems (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
Ability to choose appropriate technologies considering cost and trade-offs.
Experience across the full software development lifecycle.
Ability to define SLAs, SLOs, and error budgets.
Strong leadership in agile environments and mentoring.
Familiarity with security best practices, encryption, access control, GDPR, and ISMS.
