Astr Defence is a deep-tech defence technology company developing indigenous small arms, launchers, fire-control systems, electro-optics, thermal imaging and counter-UAV technologies for the Indian defence ecosystem.
We are looking for a hands-on Product Design / Mechanism Design Engineer who can convert engineering concepts into precise, manufacturable and reliable hardware.
🔧 THIS IS NOT JUST A CAD JOB
We are looking for an engineer who understands:
DESIGN → TOLERANCE → MACHINING → ASSEMBLY → TESTING → IMPROVEMENT
You should be comfortable solving real-world problems involving fit, clearance, interference, tolerance stack-up, precision machining and functional performance.
🚀 WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
• Mechanism and precision product design
• Complex mechanical assemblies and moving mechanisms
• Design for VMC / CNC turning / grinding / honing / precision machining
• GD&T, fits, clearances & tolerance stack-up
• Worst-case and statistical tolerance analysis
• Precision component and assembly development
• DFM / DFA and manufacturing-ready drawings
• Prototype development and validation
• Root-cause analysis of design/manufacturing problems
• Shop-floor interaction and design corrections
• Improving dimensional accuracy, surface finish and repeatability
• Structural / thermal analysis where required
• Design iteration based on testing and field feedback
• Collaboration with electronics, optics, software and systems engineers
🎯 THE ENGINEER WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You should have:
✅ Strong machine / mechanism design fundamentals
✅ Excellent understanding of GD&T, fits, clearances and tolerance stack-up
✅ Practical understanding of precision machining and manufacturing processes
✅ Experience with VMC, CNC turning, grinding, honing, jig boring or similar precision processes
✅ Ability to understand how a component will actually be manufactured, measured, assembled and tested
✅ Strong proficiency in SolidWorks / Fusion 360 or equivalent
✅ Ability to troubleshoot interference, tolerance and functional problems
✅ Hands-on prototype / shop-floor experience
✅ Ability to independently take a design from concept → drawing → prototype → validation → improvement
Defence / aerospace / automotive / precision engineering / industrial mechanism experience is preferred.
