Role Description Mentors for Transitioning Veterans will support service members as they move from military to civilian careers through guidance, coaching, and structured check-ins. In this remote contract role, mentors will help participants explore career pathways, review resumes and LinkedIn profiles, and provide feedback on interview preparation and professional communication. Mentors will facilitate introductions to learning resources, SkillBridge opportunities, and industry contacts, while documenting progress and sharing insights with SLA Labs staff. The role involves hosting virtual small-group sessions or one-on-one conversations to address questions about workplace culture, expectations, and transferable military skills. Interns will collaborate with the SLA Labs team to refine mentoring approaches, contribute to program materials, and ensure veterans receive consistent, respectful, and practical support.
Qualifications
Ability to provide empathetic, structured mentoring and career guidance to transitioning veterans.
Strong communication skills, including active listening, clear writing, and professional virtual meeting etiquette.
Interest in or familiarity with STEM fields such as cybersecurity, cloud, AI, 5G, aerospace, IoT, or healthcare technology.
Basic knowledge of job search practices, including resumes, networking, and interview preparation.
Comfort working remotely, managing time effectively, and using online collaboration and video conferencing tools.
Commitment to inclusion, respect for diverse backgrounds, and non-discriminatory support of all participants.
Experience with military culture or veteran communities is beneficial but not required.
Current student, recent graduate, or career changer with an interest in workforce development, counseling, or human resources is preferred.
