Full Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Junior Database Administrator to support our database infrastructure. In this role, you will work closely with senior DBAs and engineers to ensure our databases run smoothly, securely, and efficiently. You will gain hands-on experience with database installation, configuration, monitoring, backup, and recovery procedures. Key Responsibilities
Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement basic tuning measures.
Perform routine backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and availability.
Manage user accounts, permissions, and security settings to protect sensitive data.
Write and optimize SQL queries for reporting and data extraction.
Troubleshoot database errors and escalate complex issues to senior team members.
Document database processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
Collaborate with development and operations teams to support application deployments.
Participate in on-call rotation for critical database incidents (with training and support).
Stay updated on database best practices and emerging technologies.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
0-2 years of experience in database administration or a related IT role.
Fundamental knowledge of relational databases and SQL (e.g., SELECT, JOIN, indexing).
Familiarity with at least one database platform (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar).
Understanding of basic database concepts such as transactions, normalization, and constraints.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
Nice to Have
Experience with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or Google Cloud SQL).
Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix commands and shell scripting.
Exposure to database monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, or cloud-native solutions).
Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
