Modeling & Simulation Engineer – Mission Systems / Digital Engineering
Position Overview
Job Title: Modeling & Simulation Engineer
Location: Lincoln, MA / Hanscom AFB, MA
Work Arrangement: Primarily onsite with limited remote flexibility
Compensation: $75,000 – $170,000 annually, based on experience and technical depth
Experience Level: Early Career through Senior
Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizen required
Security Clearance: Active DoD Secret required; TS/SCI strongly preferred
Primary Focus: Modeling & simulation, mission analysis, systems engineering, digital engineering, MBSE, architecture modeling, quantitative analysis, and decision support
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Modeling & Simulation Engineer to support complex Department of Defense systems engineering, mission analysis, digital engineering, and decision-support efforts.
This role combines modeling & simulation, quantitative analysis, systems engineering, MBSE, architecture development, and mission-level decision support. Depending on experience, candidates may support engineering-level, system-level, mission-level, or operational-level simulations.
The position is primarily onsite in Lincoln, Massachusetts, supporting programs associated with Hanscom AFB.
We are flexible on level and compensation and will consider candidates ranging from developing engineers with strong analytical skills through senior engineers capable of leading modeling, simulation, architecture, and technical-analysis activities.
Key ResponsibilitiesModeling & Simulation
Develop, execute, maintain, and analyze models and simulations supporting defense and mission-system problems.
Build models representing system behavior, mission performance, operational concepts, and system interactions.
Conduct engineering-level, system-level, mission-level, or operational-level analysis.
Support scenario development, simulation execution, sensitivity analysis, parameter studies, and performance evaluation.
Validate simulation assumptions, inputs, outputs, and model behavior.
Support model verification, validation, calibration, and configuration management.
Document methodology, assumptions, results, limitations, and conclusions.
Mission Analysis & Decision Support
Perform quantitative analysis of complex systems and mission architectures.
Support trade studies, gap analysis, mission-effectiveness studies, and Analysis of Alternatives.
Evaluate system capabilities, operational concepts, and technical alternatives.
Identify performance gaps, mission risks, and technical limitations.
Convert simulation results into clear technical recommendations and decision-support products.
Systems Engineering / Digital Engineering
Support architecture, requirements, design, integration, test, verification, acceptance, and field support.
Develop and maintain digital engineering and MBSE artifacts.
Maintain traceability between requirements, interfaces, use cases, models, analysis, and verification.
Support technical reviews, Integrated Product Teams, engineering assessments, and customer briefings.
Identify engineering gaps, risks, dependencies, and mission-assurance concerns.
MBSE / Architecture Modeling
Develop and maintain SysML and/or UML models.
Support system architecture development and model-based requirements analysis.
Develop behavioral models, interfaces, activities, sequences, use cases, and architecture views.
Support model taxonomy and ontology development.
Maintain consistency between MBSE models, simulation models, analysis results, and engineering data.
Data & Quantitative Analysis
Develop analytical scripts and models using MATLAB, Python, Simulink, or comparable tools.
Analyze modeling and simulation outputs using statistical and numerical methods.
Support Design of Experiments, Monte Carlo analysis, sensitivity analysis, and uncertainty analysis.
Perform data preparation, transformation, profiling, visualization, and exploratory analysis.
Develop reusable analytical tools, scripts, dashboards, or data products.
Customer & Team Support
Work with Government customers, systems engineers, software engineers, architects, analysts, and technical leadership.
Translate customer mission needs into modeling and analytical approaches.
Participate in IPTs, technical working groups, and customer reviews.
Prepare and deliver technical briefings, assessments, reports, and status updates.
Support proposal and technical-development activities as needed.
Required Qualifications
U.S. citizenship required.
Active DoD Secret clearance required.
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, or related field.
Experience in one or more of:
Modeling & simulation
Systems engineering
Mission engineering
Digital engineering
Quantitative analysis
Systems integration
Experience with MATLAB, Python, Simulink, or equivalent analytical tools.
Understanding of systems engineering principles, requirements, interfaces, verification, validation, or lifecycle concepts.
Strong analytical, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary technical environment.
Willingness to work primarily onsite in Lincoln, MA / Hanscom AFB.
Preferred Experience
Active TS/SCI clearance.
DoD, Air Force, aerospace, intelligence, or national-security experience.
Multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation at physics, engineering, system, mission, or operational levels.

Programming or quantitative-analysis experience using Python, MATLAB, R, Mathematica, C++, C#, or Java.
SQL, relational database, data transformation, or data profiling experience.
