Senior Project Manager

The Opportunity
A rapidly growing, well-capitalized construction organization with approximately $1 billion in annual revenue is seeking an accomplished Project Director to take executive-level ownership of a major utility-scale solar project on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The company is expanding its renewable energy platform with a focus on large-scale solar PV and battery energy storage infrastructure. Projects range from approximately 75 MW to more than 600 MW, providing an opportunity to work on some of the largest and most complex renewable energy construction projects in the market.
This is not a traditional Project Manager position.
The Project Director will have full responsibility for the successful execution of the Hawaii project, serving as the primary project leader and a key interface with the project owner. This individual will oversee the project organization, field execution, commercial performance, schedule, subcontractors, labor strategy, client relationships and overall delivery.
The ideal candidate will be based on the Big Island of Hawaii. Exceptional candidates based on the West Coast will also be considered, provided they are able to travel to Hawaii approximately one week per month, with additional travel as project needs dictate.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of Project Management, the Project Director will provide overall leadership and accountability for a major utility-scale solar construction project in Hawaii.
Deep knowledge of utility-scale solar construction, field operations, self-perform construction, labor productivity, contracts, project controls and owner relationships will be critical.
Key Responsibilities
Assume overall leadership and accountability for the execution of a major utility-scale solar project located on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Serve as the senior project representative and primary point of contact with the owner and other key project stakeholders.
Maintain full responsibility for project safety, quality, schedule, cost, contractual obligations and overall project performance.
Lead the project from construction mobilization through substantial completion, commissioning, turnover and closeout.
Direct and coordinate Construction Managers, Superintendents, Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Coordinators and project support personnel.
Establish clear accountability throughout the project organization and ensure alignment between field operations and corporate leadership.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an experienced renewable energy construction leader who has progressed beyond traditional Project Manager responsibilities and has demonstrated the ability to take complete ownership of large, complex projects.
Candidates should bring substantial experience delivering utility-scale solar projects, preferably for major EPC contractors or self-performing renewable energy construction organizations.
This individual must be equally comfortable walking a project site with a Superintendent, reviewing cost and schedule performance with the project team, and sitting across the table from an owner discussing multimillion-dollar commercial or execution issues.
Preferred Experience & Qualifications
Significant project management and construction leadership experience within utility-scale solar.
Demonstrated success managing large and technically complex renewable energy construction projects.
Experience with projects in the 75 MW+ range, with experience on several hundred-megawatt projects strongly preferred.
Previous experience as a Project Director, Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, Senior
Construction Manager, or equivalent leadership role.
Strong understanding of utility-scale solar construction means and methods.
Experience working for an EPC contractor, general contractor or self-performing renewable energy construction organization.
Demonstrated experience managing self-perform construction operations.
Strong understanding of union labor environments, including Project Labor Agreements and union agreements.
Proven experience managing large project teams encompassing both field and office personnel.
Strong commercial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, cost controls, contracts, change orders and risk management.
Demonstrated ability to manage sophisticated project owners and maintain strong client relationships.
Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and major equipment vendors.
Strong understanding of project scheduling, procurement, project controls and construction sequencing.
Hawaii construction experience is highly desirable.
Existing knowledge of the Hawaii construction market, labor environment, utilities, permitting environment and local stakeholders would be particularly valuable.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related discipline preferred; equivalent significant construction experience will also be considered.
Ability to travel to and maintain a meaningful presence on the Big Island throughout project execution.
