Role Description The Victim Advocate is a full-time, on-site role based at Civil Court Gorakhpur. The role involves providing direct support to individuals affected by crime or civil disputes, including explaining court processes, assisting with documentation, and helping connect them to appropriate services. Day-to-day tasks include conducting intake and needs assessments, coordinating with attorneys and court staff, maintaining confidential case records, and accompanying victims to hearings when needed. The Victim Advocate will offer information on rights and resources, facilitate referrals to social and community services, and promote trauma-informed, culturally sensitive support. The role also includes preparing brief reports, attending meetings, and contributing to outreach or training initiatives that strengthen victim services within the court system.
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in Victim Services and Victim Advocacy, with the ability to support individuals in crisis and navigate sensitive situations.
Background in Social Work or related fields, with skills in providing psychosocial support and referrals to community resources.
Experience in Case Management, including intake, assessment, service coordination, and maintaining accurate and confidential records.
Knowledge of Criminal Justice systems and court procedures, with the ability to explain legal processes in clear and accessible language.
Strong communication and active listening skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport across diverse communities.
Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including judges, attorneys, law enforcement, and social service providers.
High level of empathy, professionalism, and resilience, with a commitment to non-discriminatory and trauma-informed practice.
Relevant academic background such as a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminology, Law, or a related discipline is preferred.
Fluency in local languages and familiarity with regional cultural contexts in and around Gorakhpur are highly beneficial.
