About the Role
We are looking for a Vice President, Market Operations to lead the operational management and execution of activities that support the organization’s market-facing business.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring efficient market operations, coordinating trading and business workflows, monitoring operational performance, and establishing scalable processes that support market activity and business growth. The VP of Market Operations will work closely with executive leadership to improve operational efficiency, manage market-related processes, and ensure that key activities are executed consistently and effectively.
You will partner across Trading, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Product, Technology, Finance, and Business Development. Because the organization is continuing to scale, this role will have significant influence over market operating procedures, workflow design, performance monitoring, issue resolution, and cross-functional coordination.
The ideal candidate combines strong market knowledge with operational leadership, analytical ability, and sound judgment in a fast-moving financial environment.
Responsibilities
• Lead the Market Operations function and establish clear operating standards, workflows, controls, and performance expectations.
• Oversee day-to-day operational processes supporting market activity, trading workflows, transactions, settlements, and related business functions.
• Partner with Trading and business teams to ensure market-related operational processes are efficient, reliable, and scalable.
• Develop and maintain standardized procedures for trade processing, transaction management, reconciliation, settlement, exception handling, and operational reporting.
• Monitor market operations performance, transaction volumes, processing times, exceptions, operational incidents, and key performance indicators.
• Work closely with Risk Management to identify and address operational risks associated with market activity, trading processes, counterparties, and transaction flows.
• Partner with Compliance and Legal to ensure market operations processes support applicable policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
• Work with Technology and Product teams to improve trading infrastructure, operational systems, workflow automation, data processes, and market-related tools.
• Establish appropriate escalation procedures for failed transactions, operational exceptions, system issues, market disruptions, and other time-sensitive events.
• Monitor operational capacity and ensure resources, systems, processes, and staffing are aligned with business and market requirements.
• Develop operational dashboards and management reports that provide leadership with visibility into market activity and operational performance.
• Conduct regular reviews of market workflows and identify opportunities to reduce operational risk, improve efficiency, and enhance scalability.
• Support the implementation and operational readiness of new products, trading venues, market initiatives, systems, and business processes.
• Coordinate with Finance and Treasury on settlement processes, liquidity requirements, cash movements, reconciliations, and related operational activities.
• Establish appropriate controls around transaction processing, data integrity, approvals, reconciliations, and operational access.
• Lead investigations into material operational incidents and coordinate root-cause analysis and remediation efforts.
• Support business continuity and contingency planning for critical market and trading operations.
• Evaluate third-party vendors, service providers, market infrastructure, and technology solutions that support market operations.
• Prepare operational analysis and recommendations for executive leadership and relevant management committees.
• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Market Operations team as organizational requirements expand.
• Maintain a high standard of operational discipline, accuracy, responsiveness, risk awareness, and accountability.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a senior market operations leader who understands the relationship between market activity, trading workflows, technology, risk, and operational execution. You should be comfortable managing complex processes while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, controls, and business performance.
The strongest candidates will typically have:
• 20+ years of progressive experience in market operations, trading operations, financial operations, brokerage operations, exchange operations, or a related field.
• Significant senior leadership experience as a VP of Market Operations, Head of Market Operations, Trading Operations Executive, Operations Director, or equivalent role.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex market-facing operational processes in a financial or transaction-intensive environment.
• Strong understanding of trade lifecycle management, transaction processing, settlement, reconciliation, exception management, and operational controls.
• Experience working closely with Trading, Risk, Compliance, Technology, Product, Finance, and senior business leadership.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify operational issues and develop practical solutions.
• Experience developing operational KPIs, dashboards, reporting frameworks, and performance management processes.
• Demonstrated experience improving workflows, implementing automation, and scaling operational processes as business volumes increase.
• Strong understanding of operational risk, controls, escalation procedures, and business continuity.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate teams across multiple functions.
• Strong project management skills and experience leading complex operational initiatives.
• Experience with trading platforms, order management systems, settlement systems, reconciliation tools, market data platforms, or related financial technology.
• Strong judgment and attention to detail when managing high-volume or time-sensitive market operations.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Operations, or a related field required. MBA, CFA, FRM, or similar qualifications are preferred.
Experience in cryptocurrency, digital assets, derivatives, exchanges, brokerage, or other electronic trading environments is a plus, but it is not required.
We are also interested in candidates from banks, broker-dealers, asset managers, trading firms, exchanges, fintech companies, payment companies, and other financial institutions.
Location and Work Arrangement
This position is based in the United States. The company offers remote, hybrid, and on-site working arrangements depending on the individual, location, and business needs.
Travel may be required as needed for leadership meetings, market operations reviews, technology and vendor discussions, partner meetings, training, and industry events.
