# BACKEND-FOCUSED FULL STACK ENGINEER
## About the Role
candidate.fyi is looking for a backend-focused Full Stack Engineer to build and scale the core platform powering recruiting operations, including interview scheduling, recruiting coordination, candidate experience, AI agents, and enterprise ATS integrations. You’ll work directly with the founding team on backend systems while remaining comfortable owning features end-to-end across the frontend and backend.
This role is designed for an engineer with strong Python and Django experience who thinks in systems, cares about product quality, and is excited about building with AI. You’ll have significant ownership, work directly with customers to understand their problems, and help shape the product based on real-world feedback.
## Key Responsibilities
* Build and scale backend services using Python and Django for scheduling, recruiting coordination, and AI agent infrastructure.
* Design and ship autonomous AI agents that support recruiting workflows, including scheduling coordination, candidate communication, and handoff logic.
* Design and develop APIs that integrate with enterprise ATS systems and the React frontend.
* Build AI-powered features using LLMs.
* Use AI coding tools such as Cursor as part of the engineering workflow.
* Optimize database performance and query efficiency across a PostgreSQL backend supporting complex scheduling logic.
* Work across backend and frontend components to own features through completion.
* Talk directly with customers to understand pain points and validate solutions.
* Use customer feedback to help shape product development and close the feedback loop between shipped functionality and customer needs.
* Proactively identify problems and propose product and technical solutions.
## Required Qualifications
* 2–3 years of hands-on Python and Django experience.
* Solid PostgreSQL fundamentals, including query optimization, schema design, and indexing.
* Comfort with REST API design and integration patterns.
* Familiarity with TypeScript and React.
* Proficiency with AI coding tools.
* Comfortable working with Cursor as part of the development workflow.
* Product-oriented approach to software development, with an understanding of the reasoning and customer needs behind technical work.
* Availability to work in the Eastern time zone for team overlap.
