About the Role
We're hiring a Backend Engineer for a full-time, on-site role in Pune. You'll take ownership of core server-side systems, driving key architectural decisions and setting technical standards across the backend. Beyond building and optimizing high-performance APIs, you'll be a technical anchor for the team — mentoring engineers, reviewing designs, and making the tradeoffs that keep our platform scalable as it grows. You'll partner closely with front-end and AI/ML engineers to ship features end to end, and you'll be a go-to voice when the team hits gnarly performance or integration challenges.
This is a senior-level position — we are not considering interns, new graduates, or entry-level candidates for this role.
What You'll Do
Own the design and architecture of backend systems, from high-level structure to low-level implementation
Set technical direction and best practices for backend development across the team
Build and optimize APIs for performance, reliability, and scale
Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers, including code and design reviews
Diagnose and resolve complex performance bottlenecks and system-level issues
Collaborate cross-functionally with front-end, AI/ML, product, and UX teams to deliver cohesive features
Make build-vs-buy and architectural tradeoff decisions with long-term scalability in mind
What We're Looking For
4+ years of backend development experience, with deep expertise in Python, Node.js, and Express.js
Strong hands-on experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL at scale; Azure deployment experience strongly preferred
Proven track record owning system architecture and leading technical decisions in production environments
Deep understanding of object-oriented design and software design patterns
Working knowledge of front-end development to collaborate effectively across disciplines
Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives
Comfort operating with high autonomy in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
