Role Description The Fitter role is a full-time, on-site position located in Bellary, supporting BRM#1 operations at JSW STEEL LIMITED. Day-to-day responsibilities include installing, assembling, aligning, and maintaining mechanical equipment and components used in steel plant operations. The Fitter will perform routine inspections, troubleshoot mechanical faults, replace worn parts, and carry out preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime. The role involves interpreting technical drawings, using hand and power tools, following standard operating procedures, and adhering to strict safety and housekeeping guidelines. The Fitter will collaborate with supervisors and other technical staff to plan maintenance activities, report issues, and ensure reliable and efficient operation of machinery.
Qualifications
Strong mechanical aptitude with practical experience in fitting, assembly, and maintenance of industrial or heavy machinery.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, maintenance manuals, and basic technical documentation.
Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and basic rigging practices.
Knowledge of preventive and breakdown maintenance procedures, troubleshooting methods, and root-cause identification for mechanical issues.
Understanding of workplace safety standards, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with plant safety rules.
Minimum ITI / vocational qualification in Fitter or related mechanical trade; diploma in mechanical engineering is an advantage.
Ability to work in shifts, in an industrial environment, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and supervisors.
Good observation, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a willingness to learn and adapt to plant requirements.
