Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Chartering Manager – Dry Bulk to lead and expand our client dry bulk chartering activities in India. In this role, you will be responsible for fixing dry bulk cargoes and vessels, optimizing freight portfolio margins, developing strategic relationships with shipowners, cargo charterers, and brokers, and executing voyage/time-charter contracts.
The ideal candidate possesses deep commercial acumen in the dry bulk sector , a robust professional network within the Indian and global maritime markets, and a proven track record of P&L optimization and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Chartering & Commercial Execution
Direct the chartering operations for dry bulk commodities (e.g., coal, iron ore, grains, fertilizers, bauxite, steel, and minerals).
Fix vessels on Voyage Charter, Time Charter (TCT/Period), and Contracts of Affreightment (COA) to match physical trading exposures or third-party freight demand.
Negotiate competitive freight rates, demurrage/despatch terms, laytime, and charterparty (CP) clauses (e.g., NYPE, Gencon) while ensuring full legal and commercial protection.
Conduct detailed voyage estimations, pre-fixture calculations, and scenario analysis to maximize voyage margins and minimize market risk.
2. Market Intelligence & Strategy
Monitor and analyze global and regional dry bulk freight markets, Baltic Exchange indices (BDI, BSI, BPI, BCI), commodity trade flows, port congestion, and bunker fuel trends.
Provide actionable market intelligence and freight rate forecasts to internal trading desks and senior executive management.
Develop trading and chartering strategies tailored to the Indian subcontinent market, leveraging regional supply-demand imbalances.
3. Post-Fixture & Operational Oversight
Collaborate closely with Post-Fixture, Operations, Laytime/Demurrage, and Legal teams to ensure smooth execution of voyages and timely settlement of claims.
Address and resolve operational disputes, off-hire claims, charterparty deviations, or force majeure events pragmatically.
Ensure strict adherence to sanctions, maritime regulations, environmental guidelines (CII/EEXI, IMO rules), and safety protocols.
Requirements:
Degree/Diploma preferably in Maritime;
3-7 years' relevant experience in dry-bulk chartering, operations in international shipping;
Research market and timing for most competitive rates;
Able to calculate & price shipping deals;
Positioning of tonnage;
Manage relations with cargo clients and develop new clients for the Group;
Able to negotiate / fix charter parties advantageous;
Maintains close liaison and good relations with traders, customers, brokers, ship owners;
Possess positive working attitude and willingness to learn;
