Founding Engineer (Platform)

This is a founding hire. You will be among the first ten people at Pathnovo with the decision rights, the ESOPs, and the exposure to customers that come with that. The systems you build here are the ones every later engineer inherits. A great founding engineer does not just increase output; they reduce the founders' uncertainty about whether the company can be built at all. That is the job we are hiring for.
Responsibilities:
The customer-facing application: viewer, markup, review, and correction workflows, register views, and exports.
The API and data layer behind it, on a multi-tenant Postgres schema where isolation is enforced at the database.
The correction loop: user markups feeding back into extraction quality.
Interface quality for engineers under time pressure.
Your own deployments, behind flags, with the telemetry to know whether they worked.
Requirements:
Experience: 4 to 8 years building and shipping production web applications.
Eligibility: Graduated in 2022 or earlier. At least 1 year at a Series A or Series B stage startup.
Strong understanding of Python and Next.js, both in production.
4+ years shipping production web applications to real users.
TypeScript as a default; FastAPI or a strong path into it.
Postgres beyond the ORM (ability to read a query plan and fix an index).
Exposure to multi-tenant systems, RBAC, or row-level security.
Nice to have: canvas or SVG rendering at scale, queue systems, Azure or GCP.
