The company leverages modern technology and streamlined processes to help businesses manage transactions, reconcile accounts, and maintain financial compliance. Team members collaborate remotely, using digital tools to support clients with reliable payment processing and responsive service. Slipstream Financial values integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement, offering opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic environment. The organization encourages innovation and clear communication to drive better financial outcomes for its clients.
Role Description
Slipstream Financial is seeking a highly organized and accountable Payment Specialist to join our growing financial technology and payments team.
The Payment Specialist is responsible for the successful execution and completion of payments processed through Nexus, Slipstream Financial's integrated financial platform. This individual will monitor payment activity, identify exceptions or delays, resolve issues, and take whatever operational steps are necessary to ensure payments are completed accurately and within our three-business-day Service Level Agreement (SLA).
The successful candidate will own payment execution from initiation through completion. This is a hands-on position requiring attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, comfort with financial systems and data, and the ability to personally execute payments when intervention is required.
Key Responsibilities
Payment Execution & SLA Management
• Monitor payment activity within the Nexus platform throughout the payment lifecycle.
• Ensure assigned payments are completed within Slipstream's three-business-day SLA.
• Identify payments that are delayed, rejected, incomplete, or otherwise require intervention.
• Investigate and resolve payment exceptions before they impact customer service levels.
• Personally execute payments when manual intervention is necessary.
• Coordinate and oversee additional payment-processing resources, including part-time staff, when volumes or exceptions require additional support.
• Maintain accurate documentation and status information for payments requiring manual intervention.
• Escalate funding, vendor, system, or operational issues when appropriate.
• Take ownership of payment completion rather than simply monitoring payment status.
Vendor Onboarding & Management
• Onboard vendors into the Nexus platform.
• Review vendor information for completeness and accuracy.
• Maintain vendor payment profiles and payment instructions.
• Communicate with vendors and customers when additional information is required.
• Assist with vendor enrollment and payment-method changes, and help ensure vendor information remains current.
Vendor Credential Management
• Receive and securely manage vendor credentials supplied by customers and their vendors.
• Maintain accurate credential records within approved systems and processes.
• Use vendor credentials when required to access payment portals or complete payments.
• Follow Slipstream's security, privacy, and credential-management procedures.
• Identify missing, expired, or invalid credentials and coordinate their resolution.
Reporting & Reconciliation
• Produce daily and periodic payment-processing reports.
• Track payment completion, exceptions, aging, and SLA performance.
• Identify payments approaching SLA deadlines and prioritize them appropriately.
• Assist with payment reconciliation and research.
• Maintain accurate records of completed and outstanding transactions.
• Provide management with visibility into payment volumes, exceptions, trends, and operational issues.
Performance Expectations
Success in this position will be measured primarily by the accuracy, timeliness, and successful completion of payments. Key performance indicators may include:
• Percentage of payments completed within the three-business-day SLA
• Payment accuracy and error rate
• Number and aging of outstanding payment exceptions, and speed of resolution
• Accuracy and completeness of vendor onboarding
• Accuracy of reporting and payment records
• Customer and vendor issue resolution
The position may include a performance-based bonus program tied to SLA achievement, payment accuracy, exception management, and other operational performance objectives.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
• 2+ years of experience in payments, banking operations, accounts payable, treasury operations, fintech operations, or a related financial-services environment.
• Experience with ACH, checks, virtual cards, card payments, or other commercial payment methods.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
• Demonstrated ability to identify problems and independently drive them to resolution.
• Strong computer and financial-system skills; comfortable with web portals, spreadsheets, reporting tools, and fintech platforms.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional communication with customers, vendors, financial institutions, and internal team members.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment where deadlines matter.
• Experience managing or coordinating other operational resources is a plus.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate has a strong ownership mentality. This position is not limited to monitoring a queue or identifying payment problems. When something prevents a payment from being completed, the Payment Specialist is expected to investigate, determine what needs to happen next, and get the payment completed. We are looking for someone who is:
• Highly dependable and detail-oriented
• Comfortable taking responsibility for critical financial transactions
• Persistent when solving payment exceptions
• Able to prioritize work based on deadlines and customer impact
• Comfortable performing hands-on operational work
• Capable of coordinating additional resources when needed
• Interested in working within a growing fintech and payments organization
