About Understanding Ageing
Understanding Ageing is being developed as a public-facing platform exploring ageing across the lifespan: what happens as we age, what is normal, what may not be, and where people can find clear, reliable information to help them make sense of it.
We already have a CEO in place and are now looking for a second senior leader to join the organisation as Co-CEO and help take Understanding Ageing through its next stage of development.
This is not an advisory or supporting position. The Co-CEO will have genuine responsibility for shaping and developing the organisation, working alongside the existing CEO, Founder and Advisory Board.
The Opportunity
The immediate foundations for Understanding Ageing are being put in place, including a substantial content, SEO and marketing programme designed to build visibility and an audience around the questions people are already asking about ageing.
The next stage is to determine what we build from that foundation.
This includes the organisation's positioning, partnerships, community, technology, services and longer-term model.
The two Co-CEOs will work together, with complementary areas of responsibility rather than duplicating one another's roles.
What You Will Do
As Co-CEO, you will help to:
Develop and implement the strategy for Understanding Ageing.
Work in partnership with the existing CEO, with clear areas of responsibility.
Build the team and organisational infrastructure as the organisation develops.
Oversee the development of programmes, partnerships and new opportunities.
Help determine how Understanding Ageing differentiates itself in an increasingly crowded field.
Work with and make effective use of an experienced Advisory Board.
Turn ideas and discussions into practical activity.
Explore opportunities around technology, community and services.
Help develop a sustainable long-term model for the organisation.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking ownership and working in an organisation that is still being built.
You do not need to be an expert in every aspect of ageing. You do need to be able to lead, make decisions, work collaboratively, create structure and move ideas into action.
Experience in one or more of the following would be useful:
Healthcare or public health
Ageing or longevity
Technology or digital platforms
Community development
Strategic partnerships
Organisational development
Business or commercial development
Senior leadership
We are particularly interested in people who can identify opportunities, think strategically and then help make things happen.
Because there is already a CEO in place, the relationship between the two Co-CEOs will be important. We are looking for complementary leadership, bringing different experience, strengths and perspectives to the organisation.
Commitment and Remuneration
This is currently an unpaid voluntary leadership position.
It would suit someone who wants to take on meaningful senior leadership responsibility and have the opportunity to help shape an organisation from an early stage rather than stepping into a role where everything has already been decided.
The role is flexible and can be carried out remotely.
