Founding Engineer

Braid is looking for a Founding Engineer to join our Product & Engineering (P&E) team as our first full-time hire.
About Braid
Specialty insurance is one of the largest and least digitised markets in the world. Every day, brokers and MGAs trade risk through application forms, email chains and manual re-keying. The same submission is typed out and extracted again at each step.
At Braid, we're changing that. A broker can submit a risk in whatever form they have and get instant quotes back. MGAs get clean, structured submissions, immediately ingested into their own pricing and rules engines. And as insurance moves through AI agents, we keep brokers and MGAs connected to trade however business will arrive next.
What you'll do
You'll be talking to users, constantly. We spend a good chunk of our week deeply understanding how Braid is being used by our customers, where it's not being used and how we can improve our product. Everyone across the company does this.
You'll be solving problems. Talking to users is as valuable as the actions we take on it. We don't want to sit still, we want to know the problem, fix it and then tell show the user it's solved.
You'll be defining our product roadmap. As a founding engineer we want you to help shape what the future of insurance looks like and influence how it will be transacted in the future. We want you to have the pen, scoping, designing, building, and shipping where you see Braid, and insurance, going.
Setting the bar. As our first engineering hire, you will be setting the bar for everyone else.
What we're looking for
Highly technical with experience in shipping production software to real users, with contributions defining the solution and leading the execution.
Experienced in python, typescript and react with real depth in each.
Previously built agentic systems that are used by real clients beyond the demo/prototype stage.
Strong written and verbal communication in English.
Experience in insurance, fintech or another regulate industry.
