2. About the Opportunity:
The Sr Field Property Adjuster is responsible for independently managing moderate to complex and high-value field property claims within the Grand Rapids, Michigan territory. This role plays a critical part in resolving claims through detailed investigation, evaluation, and negotiation. It requires collaboration with internal teams and external experts, frequent travel, and strict compliance with policies and regulations to ensure accurate and fair claim outcomes. The position contributes to maintaining the quality and efficiency of claims handling while mentoring junior staff and supporting a positive customer experience.
3. Responsibilities:
Manage field property claims, including catastrophe responses and outside investigations
Conduct thorough investigations, assess coverage, and prepare necessary documentation
Identify and pursue risk transfer opportunities for insureds and business partners
Maintain detailed claim records ensuring regulatory and policy compliance
Identify subrogation potential and organize files for recovery efforts
Ensure claims activities conform to regulatory and company standards
Investigate suspicious claims and coordinate with the Special Investigation Unit as needed
Set reserves, authorize payments, and make financial decisions within authority
Coordinate with legal, underwriting, vendors, and agents; lead cross-functional meetings
Use analytics and advanced tools to identify trends and improve claims handling
Maintain organized claim records and prepare detailed reports
Mentor junior adjusters and support training and best practice development
Communicate clearly and empathetically with claimants and stakeholders throughout the process
Represent the program in mediations, arbitrations, and trials when necessary
Maintain appropriate state adjuster licenses, continuing education, and valid driver’s license
4. Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with claim handling
5–10 years of adjusting experience
Strong knowledge of local geography, regulations, public safety agencies, and legal environment
Expertise in negotiation, judgment, and decision-making including litigation and compliance
Effective verbal and written communication skills demonstrating empathy
Highly organized with strong time and project management abilities
Ability to analyze complex issues and make informed decisions independently
Experience collaborating with legal, underwriting, and other stakeholders
Skilled in using claims systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to operate standard office equipment and personal computer
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work on-site as needed
Willingness and ability to travel as necessary
Able to work in fast-paced, changing, or stressful environments
Capability to work in noisy environments
May require adequate home internet connection
Ability to drive 4-5 hours per day and repeatedly get in and out of vehicles
Ability to load/unload equipment up to 30 pounds from vehicles
Physical ability to bend, walk, climb, and use ladders safely during field inspections
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
The pay range and compensation package for this role will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
