I. Position Overview
The Vice President of Investment Strategy is responsible for formulating, analyzing, and driving the company's investment strategy, providing strategic support for portfolio allocation, asset allocation, investment opportunity assessment, and long-term capital deployment.
This role requires synthesizing macroeconomic conditions, market trends, industry developments, asset performance, and risk factors to provide data- and research-driven strategic analysis to the Investment Committee and senior management. The incumbent will collaborate with investment management, risk, finance, and operations teams to translate investment strategies into actionable investment plans.
II. Key Responsibilities
1. Investment Strategy Formulation
Assist in formulating the company's medium- to long-term investment strategies and objectives.
Propose investment strategy recommendations based on macroeconomic conditions, the market environment, and the company's capital position.
Analyze investment opportunities, risks, and long-term return characteristics across various asset classes.
Periodically evaluate existing investment strategies and propose adjustments.
2. Asset Allocation and Portfolio Strategy
Participate in research regarding Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) and Tactical Asset Allocation (TAA).
Analyze allocation opportunities across equities, fixed income, private equity, real estate, cash, and other asset classes.
Evaluate portfolio characteristics regarding risk, return, correlation, and liquidity.
Provide analytical support for portfolio optimization and rebalancing.
3. Market and Macro Research
Monitor global macroeconomic trends, interest rates, inflation, monetary policy, and capital market developments.
Analyze industry cycles, market structures, and key investment themes.
Establish market research frameworks and databases for investment insights.
Translate market research into actionable investment strategy recommendations.
4. Investment Opportunity Analysis
Conduct strategic-level assessments of potential investment projects, funds, securities, and other assets.
Analyze the business models, market potential, competitive landscape, and risk factors of investment opportunities.
Collaborate with investment teams to conduct due diligence and investment case analysis.
Prepare analysis materials on investment opportunities for the Investment Committee.
5. Risk and Scenario Analysis
Conduct stress testing, scenario analysis, and sensitivity analysis on investment strategies.
Assess market volatility, liquidity risk, credit risk, and concentration risk.
Collaborate with the risk management team to establish investment risk monitoring frameworks.
Propose risk-adjusted strategies based on varying market environments. 6. Investment Committee Support
Prepare investment strategy, market analysis, and portfolio research materials for the Investment Committee.
Participate in Investment Committee meetings and provide professional analysis.
Monitor the implementation of decisions regarding investment strategies.
Report regularly on portfolio performance and strategic deviations.
7. Investment Performance Analysis
Establish frameworks for performance analysis and attribution related to investment strategies.
Analyze portfolio performance relative to benchmarks and targets.
Identify key drivers of investment returns.
Propose investment strategy optimizations based on performance analysis.
8. Cross-functional Collaboration and Team Leadership
Collaborate with CIO, Portfolio Managers, and teams across Research, Risk, Finance, and Investment Operations.
Lead investment strategy research and related projects.
Mentor senior analysts and investment researchers.
Drive continuous improvement in investment research processes, data analysis, and strategy tools.
III. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
Typically possesses 20+ years of experience in investment management, investment research, asset allocation, capital markets, or related areas.
Typically possesses 8+ years of experience in investment strategy, investment research, or senior-level investment analysis.
Proficient in asset allocation, portfolio theory, market analysis, and risk management.
Strong capabilities in financial modeling, data analysis, and investment research.
Ability to translate complex market information into clear investment strategy analysis.
Excellent skills in written reporting, presentations, and communication with senior management.
