About The Role
As an Engineer III, Field Service at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will play a pivotal role in delivering advanced technical support for a diverse range of analytical instrumentation, including Chromatography (IC/LC/HPLC/UHPLC) and Trace Elemental technologies (ICP-OES/ICP-MS). This remote, field-based position primarily supports customers across the Greater Montreal region and throughout Quebec, with occasional travel across Eastern Canada. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing complex analytical systems to ensure maximum laboratory productivity and performance. Building trusted relationships with customers is central to this role, requiring a high level of technical expertise, professionalism, and customer service skills. The position offers an excellent opportunity for experienced engineers to work autonomously, contribute to scientific advancements, and support critical laboratory operations across various sectors including academia, healthcare, industry, and government.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a diploma, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Electronics, Engineering Technology, Physical Sciences, or related technical disciplines. A minimum of five years of field service experience supporting analytical instrumentation is highly preferred, especially candidates with a broad background in Chromatography and Trace Elemental platforms. Hands-on experience supporting at least three of the following technologies is strongly desired: Ion Chromatography (IC), Liquid Chromatography (LC/HPLC/UHPLC), ICP-OES, and ICP-MS. Fluency in both French and English, spoken and written, is essential for effective communication with customers and colleagues. Valid driver's license, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., and willingness to travel within Quebec and occasionally across Eastern Canada are required. Candidates must also be eligible to travel internationally, including to the United States, for training and support activities, with the ability to obtain necessary travel documentation such as a valid passport.
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities of this role include installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, maintaining, and qualifying Chromatography and Trace Elemental instrumentation. You will perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs to maximize system uptime and laboratory efficiency. Delivering exceptional technical support and building trusted customer relationships are critical aspects of your role. You will manage service schedules, complete detailed documentation, and accurately close work orders using company systems. Continuous professional development is expected through required product training and maintaining technical certifications. Working safely in customer laboratories by adhering to Thermo Fisher Scientific and client safety standards is mandatory. Collaboration with colleagues across the service organization to share knowledge and provide comprehensive technical support is essential. Representing the company professionally during all customer interactions will help foster long-term partnerships and ensure customer satisfaction.
