Industrial Boiler & Steam Operator (1st Shift)

We are seeking an experienced Boiler & Steam Operator to take primary ownership of our plant’s low-pressure boiler, steam, and compressed air infrastructure. Hands-on low-pressure boiler and steam experience is required. This role focuses heavily on boiler management, industrial steam distribution, mechanical plumbing, and compressor maintenance, with commercial HVAC serving as an added bonus.
Key Responsibilities
Boiler & Steam Operations (Core Focus): Safely operate, monitor, and maintain low-pressure boilers and industrial steam distribution systems. Perform daily water chemical testing, system blowdowns, steam trap maintenance, and valve inspections.
Compressed Air Systems: Maintain, troubleshoot, and execute preventive maintenance on industrial air compressors, air dryers, filters, and pneumatic piping.
Mechanical Plumbing & Pipefitting: Install, modify, and repair steam piping, condensate return lines, water connections, and compressed air lines (heavy mechanical plumbing emphasis over electrical work).
Preventive Maintenance: Carry out daily, monthly, semi-annual, and annual PMs across all boiler, steam loop, and compressed air equipment.
Diagnostics & System Tracing: Read as-built piping schematics, blueprints, and pressure gauges to identify leaks, pressure drops, or equipment issues using standard hand and power tools.
Inventory & Parts Ordering: Maintain inventory and order replacement parts for boilers, pipe fittings, valves, and air compressor systems.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with local boiler codes, safety regulations, EPA rules, and environmental standards.
HVAC Support (Bonus): Provide basic troubleshooting for commercial HVAC equipment and Metasys building automation systems as needed.
Required:
Boiler & Steam Expertise: Proven experience operating and maintaining low-pressure boilers and industrial steam systems.
Compressed Air Equipment: Experience running, troubleshooting, and servicing industrial air compressors and air piping.
Plumbing & Pipefitting Skills: Strong mechanical plumbing capabilities, including soldering, brazing, pipe fitting, and valve rebuilds.
Technical Skills: Ability to read piping schematics, use pressure gauges and diagnostic tools, and troubleshoot mechanical loops.
Preferred / Bonus:
Commercial HVAC troubleshooting experience.
Familiarity with Metasys Building Automation Systems (BAS).
Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions
Physical Demands: Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crawling, squatting, reaching, and climbing ladders or elevated platforms.
Lifting: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs solo and up to 100 lbs as a team lift.
Fine Motor Skills: Frequent use of hands for pipe fitting, valve assembly, and fine mechanical adjustments.
Work Environment: Comfortable working around low-pressure steam lines, moving machinery, elevated heights, and in varying thermal and atmospheric conditions (heat, humidity, dust, fumes).
