About the job
Overview
We build systems that actually get used.
At Mutherboard, we help fast-growing businesses escape chaos by designing custom workflows on monday.com that streamline their operations.
Role overview
The QA Specialist is the guardian of delivery quality at mutherboard. They are involved across all phases of every project — from scoping through to handover — to ensure the solutions we build are correct, robust, and delivered against what the client signed up for.
They run stage-gated reviews, hold the line on best practice, and are the final arbiter of whether a project is ready for UAT or client handover.
Critically, this is an independent quality role. The QA Specialist does not implement fixes — they identify issues, hand work back to the Solutions Specialist to resolve, and re-check. They also spot patterns: where the same issues recur across individuals or the team, they raise them to the Enablement Lead to address through training.
This is a key role in making mutherboard the best it can be.
🛠️ Key responsibilities
1. Quality across all project phases
Be involved throughout the project lifecycle — scoping, configuration, testing, and handover — not just at the end.
Ensure mutherboard's best practices and delivery standards are followed in every solution delivered to clients.
Catch quality issues, errors, and scope drift early, when they're cheapest to fix.
2. 📑 Stage-gated reviews against the SOW
Run structured, stage-gated reviews at defined points in each project.
Check that what's being built matches the agreed Statement of Work — no gaps, no undocumented scope creep.
Confirm each gate is genuinely met before the project moves to the next phase.
3. ✅ Final sign-off for UAT and handover
Be the final arbiter of whether a project is ready for UAT or ready to be handed to the client.
Hold the line: nothing goes to the client until it meets the quality bar, regardless of timeline pressure.
4. 🔎 Issue identification and handback (not fixing)
Identify defects, inconsistencies, and best-practice gaps — clearly documented with enough context to act on.
Hand work back to the Solutions Specialist to resolve; do not implement fixes directly.
Re-review resolved work to confirm the issue is genuinely closed.
5. 📊 Pattern spotting and enablement feedback
Track recurring issues across individuals and the team.
Raise consistent patterns to the Enablement Lead so they can be addressed through training and coaching.
Feed quality data back so the team gets better over time — not just this project.
6. 🧰 Own and maintain the QA framework and checklists
Own the practical QA toolkit — test plans, review checklists, stage-gate criteria, handover checklists — keeping them current as the business and platform evolve.
7. 🎯 Define the "definition of done" and quality bar
Set and document what "good" looks like at each stage, so the standard is objective and consistent rather than a matter of opinion.
8. 🧪 Test planning and test coverage
Ensure every project has an appropriate test plan, that key scenarios and edge cases are covered, and that testing is evidenced rather than assumed.
9. 🚀 Post-launch / post-handover quality review
Do a short quality retrospective after go-live — did anything slip through? — and feed defects-in-production back into the framework and enablement.
10. 📈 Quality metrics and reporting
Track defect rates, rework, gate pass/fail rates, and common failure themes, and report them to the Head of Solutions so quality is visible and trending in the right direction.
11. 🤝 Client-facing quality assurance
Sanity-check client-facing deliverables and documentation for accuracy, clarity, and consistency before they go out — the last line of defence on how mutherboard looks to the client.
12. 🧩 Root-cause analysis on escalations
When something does reach a client or fails UAT, run a lightweight root-cause review to identify whether it's a person, process, or tooling issue — and route it to the right owner.
13. 🔄 Continuous improvement of QA process
Own a small backlog of QA improvements — better checklists, review templates, automated checks where possible — and drive measurable reductions in rework and escaped defects.
14. 📝 Contribute to scoping / SOW quality
Provide a QA lens at scoping — is the SOW clear, testable, and unambiguous enough to review against later? Ambiguous scope is where quality problems start.
👥 How this role sits alongside others
Head of Solutions — team accountability, KPIs, 1:1s, performance management, capacity, hiring.
QA Specialist — quality standards, stage-gate reviews, SOW compliance, UAT/handover sign-off, defect handback, pattern spotting.
Solutions Specialist — implementing the solution and resolving handed-back issues.
Enablement Lead — turning recurring QA patterns into training and coaching.
Team Lead — day-to-day tracking, mutherboard V2 accuracy, go-to resource, knowledge sharing.
