Civil Engineer - Water Resources

WATER RESOURCES ENGINEER
SRL Engineering & Design PLLC is seeking an experienced Water Resources Engineer to join our growing engineering team.
This position is ideal for a technically strong engineer with experience in stormwater management, hydrology, hydraulics, drainage design, and civil/site development projects. Experience working remotely on engineering projects located in the United States is highly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related field.
Master’s degree in Water Resources, Hydraulics, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, or related field required.
Minimum 5 years of professional engineering experience, with significant experience in water resources.
Fluent English, both written and spoken. The candidate must be comfortable participating in technical meetings and communicating with engineers, clients, and project managers in English.
Strong knowledge of:
Hydrologic and hydraulic analysis
Stormwater management
Storm drainage system design
Detention and retention systems
Culvert and pipe sizing
Open-channel hydraulics
Watershed analysis
Erosion and sediment control
Floodplain and flood studies
Ability to independently prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, and design documentation.
Highly Preferred
Previous experience working remotely for a U.S.-based engineering or consulting firm.
Experience designing projects located in the United States.
Understanding of U.S. engineering standards, permitting processes, and municipal design requirements.
Experience with land development and site development projects.
Experience coordinating with municipalities, review agencies, architects, surveyors, and other engineering disciplines.
Experience responding to review comments and revising plans through the permitting/approval process.
Familiarity with stormwater and drainage requirements in North Carolina or other U.S. jurisdictions is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities
The selected engineer will support SRL's civil engineering and land development projects throughout the United States. Responsibilities may include:
Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations for commercial, residential, industrial, and land development projects.
Prepare stormwater management calculations and reports.
Design storm drainage networks, detention/retention systems, culverts, channels, and related infrastructure.
Perform pre-development and post-development runoff calculations.
Develop and evaluate stormwater management strategies to satisfy local and state requirements.
Prepare floodplain and hydraulic analyses when required.
Support erosion and sediment control design.
Review grading and drainage plans prepared by the civil engineering team.
Prepare engineering reports, narratives, calculations, and supporting documentation for permit submissions.
Coordinate technical work with SRL project managers, engineers, and CAD designers.
Review project drawings and provide technical direction to drafting/design staff.
Respond to comments from municipalities and reviewing agencies.
Participate in internal and client meetings in English.
Manage assigned tasks independently while meeting project schedules and quality standards.

We are looking for someone who is not only capable of performing calculations, but who can take ownership of the water resources portion of a project.
The ideal candidate should be able to receive project information, evaluate the applicable requirements, develop the engineering approach, perform the necessary calculations, coordinate with the design team, and assist the project through the review and approval process.
Strong communication, organization, accountability, and attention to detail are essential.
