About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
We're Hiring: Product Design Lead
Location: Sydney preferred (our store and wine bar become your testing ground). Remote friendly within Australia.
Employment Type: Full time, permanent
TL;DR
We're looking for a rare hybrid: part product designer, part product manager, all builder. You'll partner with our Head of Engineering to lead the next iteration of the world's most loved wine service.
You'll take our roadmap and run: ideate, do discovery, design the next key features of Good Pair Days, and put them in front of customers faster than most teams schedule the kickoff meeting.
Who We Are
Not to toot our own trumpet but we think we’ve become one of the most innovative wine retailers in the world, by re-imagining what the wine retail experience can be.
We’ve built a product people genuinely love, starting with our original personalised recommendation engine, fully customisable palate profile, and wine rating system. But adding on top a world leading wine education, gamified discovery, and loyalty and rewards program to create retail experience ecosystem we struggle to see the rival of even across other categories.
We’re also translating and exploring how we can take all of the above to the real world, with our first concept store in Surry Hills, Sydney.
We're a dedicated team that thrives on innovation, accountability, and a growth mindset who together delight more than 90,000 wine lovers in both Australia and the UK, shipping out more than 2 million delicious bottles a year!
We are a small team by design. We believe great people using modern tools can outperform much larger teams. We value ownership, speed, and good judgement over process.
About the Role
This is a senior role with scope, autonomy, and real accountability for our product's success.
You'll sit at the centre of our product, working directly with our Head of Engineering and leadership team. You're an expert at your trade: UX, UI, discovery, and product thinking. But you recognise that in a post-AI world, the real advantage is unique ideas and insights, which you can now bring to life and put in front of customers more rapidly than ever before.
You understand the principles of Marty Cagan and love to build, measure, learn. But you pair that with a commercial understanding of our stage of business and all the practicalities that entails.
You won't be a cog in a product machine. We're a small team that accomplishes a lot, moves quickly, and carries very little bureaucracy. You'd choose getting your hands dirty over process every time.
What You'll DoProduct Strategy and Discovery
Take our product roadmap and make it sharper: ideate, run discovery, and pressure-test what we build next
Own what comes next, not just what's planned, drawing on customer insight, data, and your own creativity
Talk to customers constantly and validate ideas before we invest in building them
Apply a commercial lens to every decision: each feature has to earn its place in the business
Design and Build
Design the next key features of Good Pair Days end to end, from concept to polished UI
Use the best AI product tools available to go from idea to working prototype in days, not months
Set and raise the design quality bar across the whole product
Ship rapidly with our Head of Engineering, then measure, learn, and iterate
Helping us evolve our experiences for new markets as we grow
Omni-Channel Product
Help design our omni-channel strategy, using our newly launched concept store and wine bar as a live testing ground
Create experiences that connect our digital product with real world moments
Take what works and help carry Australia and the UK's highest rated wine service to the world
Who You Are
An expert product designer with real product management chops, or the reverse
Creativity is your greatest strength: unique ideas and insights, plus the craft to bring them to life
Already fluent in AI product and design tools, and always hunting for better ones
A customer champion who loves working on consumer products
Commercially sharp: you understand the ins and outs of running a business and it shows in your thinking
Energised by real ownership of outcomes and the accountability that comes with it
Comfortable with the ambiguity and complexity that ambition like ours requires
This Role Is Not For You If
You want to hand over specs and let someone else do the building
You need a big team of researchers, designers, and PMs around you to do your best work
You prefer polishing strategy decks to shipping and iterating
You're waiting for AI tools to be "proven" before changing how you work
You want a narrow lane rather than end to end ownership
You're looking for a safe, slow moving environment
Why Join Good Pair Days
Competitive compensation with meaningful equity. Salary commensurate with your experience and quality: for the right person, we're willing to pay
Real ownership over the product of a much loved and growing brand
Work directly with founders and our Head of Engineering, with no layers in between
Shape our omni-channel future with a wine bar and store as your playground
A small, sharp team where your work has visible impact
How to Apply
Send your CV or portfolio to product@goodpairdays.com telling us:
A product or feature you personally took from insight to discovery to shipped, and what happened after launch
How you use AI tools to design, prototype, or build faster
One thing you would build or change at Good Pair Days in your first 90 days
If you're excited by real ownership and building things people genuinely love, you'll feel at home here. We would love to hear from you 🍷
