About the Opportunity
Signal Based LLC is building an independent sales channel and team for Gopher Fire, a field technology system designed for fire alarm inspection, service, and troubleshooting teams.
Gopher Fire addresses a very specific and expensive problem in the fire protection industry: the need to keep a second person stationed at the fire alarm panel while another technician works elsewhere in the building.
The system provides remote visibility into fire panel conditions and remote interaction with common panel functions, allowing technicians to monitor panel activity while working elsewhere on the property.
For fire alarm contractors, the value proposition is straightforward:
Reduce unnecessary labor. Reduce walking and waiting. Allow skilled technicians to complete more productive work.
We are looking for independent sales representatives who already understand contractor-driven B2B sales, particularly representatives with existing relationships in fire protection, life safety, low-voltage, security, electrical distribution, or adjacent industries.
It is designed primarily for experienced independent or multi-line representatives who can add Gopher Fire to an existing portfolio and introduce it to customers they already know how to reach.
What is Gopher Fire?
Gopher Fire is a rugged remote fire-panel monitoring and control system built for field technicians.
The system uses a camera-based approach to visually monitor fire alarm panel indicators rather than requiring proprietary integration with an individual panel manufacturer.
Depending on the field setup, technicians can use Gopher to monitor conditions including:
Alarm
Trouble
Supervisory conditions
Indicator state changes
Blinking versus solid indicators
Recent panel activity
Remote actuator hardware can also be positioned over physical panel controls, allowing supported functions such as:
Acknowledge
Silence
Reset
The system is particularly useful on properties where the fire panel and the devices being inspected are separated by significant distance, including:
Apartment complexes
High-rise buildings
Warehouses
Campuses
Multi-building properties
Large commercial facilities
Another strong use case is intermittent troubleshooting. Gopher can remain monitoring the panel when a problem happens unpredictably, allowing technicians to capture information when the trouble actually occurs instead of arriving later to find the system operating normally.
The equipment is packaged for contractor use in rugged field hardware and an official Pelican case, with cellular connectivity and Wi-Fi capability available depending on the installation environment.
The system is designed to be deployed quickly and then monitored from the technician's mobile device.
Gopher is actively continuing development around additional automation, OCR/screen-reading, reporting, and industry integrations.
Why Companies Buy It
The primary business case is labor utilization.
Many fire alarm inspections and service jobs traditionally involve two people:
One technician working throughout the building.
Another person remaining near the fire panel to watch signals, relay information, acknowledge events, and reset the panel.
That second person may be another skilled technician, a lower-cost helper, or even temporary labor.
Gopher is designed to perform much of that panel-monitoring role remotely.
The result can be:
Half the labor hours required per inspection
Reduced dependence on temporary panel-watch personnel
Less time walking back and forth across large buildings
Faster troubleshooting
More productive use of licensed technicians
More work completed with the same workforce
Examples include fire protection companies using additional personnel simply to remain at panels during inspection work. The commercial opportunity is strongest where labor availability and technician utilization are already major operational concerns.
What We Are Looking For
We are not primarily looking for entry-level salespeople who need a lead list (although we will have some amount of leads provided), sales training, daily management, and a script for every conversation.
We are particularly interested in people who already sell into the industries where Gopher makes sense.
Strong candidates may currently represent products or services in areas such as:
Fire alarm systems
Fire protection
Life safety
Low-voltage systems
Inspection equipment
Contractor tools
Testing equipment
Fire/security supply houses
Existing independent manufacturer's representatives and multi-line sales representatives are strongly encouraged to apply.
You may already carry several complementary manufacturers or product lines.
That's fine.
In fact, that's largely the model we're looking for.
What Success Looks Like
A successful representative should be comfortable:
Identifying fire protection companies and qualified buyers
Introducing a new specialty product
Explaining the labor and ROI case
Reaching service managers, inspection managers, branch managers, operations leaders, owners, and other decision-makers
Following up consistently
Identifying pilot opportunities
Helping customers evaluate one-unit trials
Developing larger fleet opportunities after a successful initial deployment
Bringing technical questions or qualified prospects back to our team when needed
For qualified opportunities that need deeper technical discussion, product demonstrations and technical support can be coordinated with the Gopher team.
Your job is to open the relationship, communicate the value, develop the opportunity, and move the deal forward.
Compensation
This is a commission-based independent sales opportunity with no base salary.
Our compensation structure is designed to reward representatives who consistently develop new customer relationships and successfully grow their book of business.
Commission is calculated as a percentage of the actual realized margin on each sale. This gives representatives flexibility when negotiating with customers while also rewarding strong price discipline. If a representative chooses to discount a deal, the available commissionable margin decreases accordingly.
Representatives begin with a competitive share of the commissionable margin and can earn progressively higher rates by successfully opening new customer accounts.
The commission percentage also applies to the annual renewal cost per unit, for as long as the customer keeps that contract actively renewing.
Commission progression:
• Starting tier: 50% of commissionable margin
• After first completed sale: 55%
• After sales to 2 distinct companies: 60%
• After sales to 3 distinct companies: 65%
• After sales to 6 distinct companies: 70%
Commission increases are based on successful customer acquisition, not simply the number of units sold.
Discount Flexibility
Representatives will have some ability to negotiate pricing.
Because commission is calculated from realized sales margin, discounting naturally reduces commission. This percentage of compensation will also apply to the annual renewal per unit.
This gives representatives flexibility to make a deal when appropriate while also rewarding strong price discipline.
Large fleet opportunities or unusual volume transactions may involve customized pricing and should be brought back to Signal Based/Gopher for review.
The goal is not to prevent representatives from negotiating.
The goal is to create a compensation model where everyone benefits when the representative creates value and protects the economics of the sale.
A successful multi-unit order can create meaningful compensation without requiring the representative to sell a high volume of low-dollar products.
For independent representatives who already make calls on these customers, Gopher can potentially become an additional revenue-producing product line within relationships you already maintain.
Sales Support
The goal is to give representatives enough information to conduct the initial business conversation without expecting them to become fire alarm engineers.
