Head of Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Engineering based in India.
This is a senior technology leadership role responsible for shaping engineering, data, platform, and technology strategy for a fast-growing digital business.
You’ll operate as an embedded member of the leadership team, partnering closely with the CEO and senior business stakeholders.
The role combines strategic technology planning with hands-on leadership across architecture, infrastructure, security, data, and engineering operations.
You’ll translate business priorities into clear technology roadmaps while balancing investment, scalability, reliability, risk, and delivery.
You’ll lead engineering and data organizations through managers and technical leaders, creating alignment and accountability across teams.
The position also provides an opportunity to identify practical applications for AI and automation that can improve productivity and business performance.
This is a high-impact, remote role suited to an experienced technology leader who thrives in complex, fast-moving environments.
Accountabilities
Define and execute the overall engineering, technology, data, and platform strategy in alignment with business objectives.
Partner with the CEO, Finance, Operations, Product, Commercial, and other senior stakeholders to translate business priorities into actionable technology roadmaps.
Lead prioritization discussions and establish alignment around timelines, dependencies, investments, trade-offs, and technology risks.
Communicate technology strategy, delivery progress, risks, opportunities, and business impact clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Influence strategic decisions through structured recommendations, relevant data, and clear business rationale.
Lead engineering and data teams through senior managers and technical leads, supporting organizational effectiveness and leadership development.
Oversee platform architecture, cloud infrastructure, scalability, reliability, performance, and technology cost efficiency.
Strengthen analytics and data capabilities to provide reliable insights for executive and operational decision-making.
Own technology security, data privacy, compliance, access governance, and broader technology risk management.
Manage technology budgets, vendors, infrastructure expenditure, and build-versus-buy decisions.
Identify and evaluate opportunities to apply AI and automation to improve engineering workflows, operational efficiency, and broader business productivity.
Build strong relationships across business and technology functions while maintaining alignment around shared objectives.
Requirements
10+ years of experience in technology leadership roles within startups, scale-ups, or other fast-growing businesses.
Proven experience leading engineering and/or data organizations through senior managers, engineering leaders, or technical leads.
Strong stakeholder management experience, including direct collaboration with CEOs, founders, and senior leadership teams.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and build alignment across multiple business functions.
Excellent executive-level communication, influencing, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
Ability to translate complex technical subjects into clear business outcomes, risks, investment considerations, and recommendations.
Strong understanding of cloud-native platforms, modern software architecture, data systems, infrastructure, scalability, and reliability.
Experience managing technology budgets, external vendors, infrastructure costs, and strategic technology investments.
Ability to make high-impact decisions in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments while maintaining a pragmatic and business-focused approach.
Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
Experience in regulated or data-sensitive sectors such as fintech, insurance, financial services, or similar industries is preferred.
